I still think the major issue is not the individuals in the back four, as out of form as they may be, but the way we defend - or don't defend - as a team, from front to back. Unless our defensive organisation in all compartments improves, results wil not improve.

Adkins has not yet demonstrated that he can set us up to defend properly, but in the coming weeks he simply has to.

Yes whether we all rate adkins or not, he has no excuses for not picking up results in the next two league games against statistically the worst two teams in the division so far this season (apart from us of course!).

All his cliches and positivity and talk of resilience will mean nothing if we don’t pick up some good results against poor teams.

playing against 10 men for half the game …
Yep. And a reserve keeper for a while. Further they had their midfield decimated with injuries the day before.
Albeit I thought there were some good rovers performances in that game.

And he has a very long contact to sort it out to. 8 loses in 12 games is a great start

Reflecting on yesterday's game, you've got to feel it a little for the lads. Considering our dire away record, we did take it to them. We scored three goals, came from behind twice and only lost to a last minute goal. Yes, our defence was poor again and we should have closed the game out at 3-3 but at least there were signs of a revival. They worked hard and got a good reception from the away supporters. Apter is playing well and scoring goals, Norris is now back and should make a difference up top. I just hope they can get some consistency home and away and that result albeit a loss will give them some confidence going into the next two massive games that are coming up.

I think if we can keep Norris fit and Apter in the side then we’ll have no problems scoring goals, especially with back up from the likes of Hawkes, CJ and Morris.

McGee looked gutted yesterday and Davies has hands on head.

I guess Nigel will be saying to the two centre backs you have until January to buck your ideas up or otherwise we’ll be bringing new reinforcements. That said I still think the 4-3-3 system isn’t working especially away from home as results show.

Whilst not a fan of 4-3-3 a front three of Hawkes, Norris and Apter could be very good albeit I still would like Dennis involved in a front two.

Apter only signed until January so hopefully he doesn’t do too well and have league one clubs sniffing around

Think Apter may be doing enough to cause Blackpool to wonder whether he can do anything for them this season although the fact they allowed him to get cup tied maybe suggests we are not there quite yet.
Much may well also depend on how we are doing by then. If we are still in the mire then they may look to move him elsewhere even if they don't want him back as being in a losing side every week isn't likely good for his development.

I've just seen the goals on the BBC. We scored three great goals with Apter's the highlight. As for their goals, our defence wasn't poor, it was non-existent. On every occasion, including the penalty, our defenders outnumbered their attackers, yet the attackers got to the ball first and made us suffer. I honestly believe that if we could get that aspect of our game right, we'd soon be out of trouble. But there has been no real improvement in the time Nigel has been in charge. Save the money on new players, bring in a specialist defensive coach now!

Someone like the club got rid off in 2020?

Before Dawes!
We wouldn't have needed Dawes, if the club had not relieved him of his services!
If you can guess, just put his initials.
Different sort of quiz, it's usually about players!

Are you thinking of your namesake? He was a defender but he arrived in 2020 and left in 2021.

He’ll be referring to Shaun Garnett, who was amongst the backroom staff made redundant after the demotion from L1.

Not sure if he’s had a job in football since.

Jacko could presumably have tried to bring him back as his assistant if he wanted to, but he appointed Dawes instead.

And hasn’t worked in professional football since
Probably through choice as much as anything. The life of a lower league assistant or youth coach is not that lucrative or fantastic, particularly if they have a family and don't want to uproot.

Garnett did a good job for us, particularly in the 2009-10 season when he and Allison supported Parry and guided us to safety after the Barnes fiasco.

I wonder where Palios' protege Ian Dawes will turn up next ?

I’d forgotten about Shaun Garnett, seemed to be treated poorly by the club, think he spent some time in China when the coaching was ongoing there too.
Wonder if Dawes was purely a Mike Jackson choice as assistant…
