The way things are going with performances and injuries I doubt we will win another game this season

Just watched a bit of Paul Simpsons post match interview. First thing he said was they knew we’d play out from the back which is risky so they pressed us.

Hardly rocket science! But no one told our players :-(

Or rather Dawes did…but the players didn’t take it on board

I thought the performance was garbage and Carlisle won't have an easier win all season.

Our approach to the game was all wrong. I said beforehand that if we played out from the back we would be in trouble, and so it proved. Hewelt will be criticised for the opening goal, but I place the blame on Dawes for insisting that we play out in every circumstance. We should have approached the first thirty minutes today as we did at Stevenage a few weeks ago: be disciplined, keep it tight and don't take any risks to encourage a side who, we should not forget, had not scored a goal in four matches prior to today and were missing key players due to injury. Instead of which, we gave them all the encouragement they needed with an incredibly naive tactical approach.

In fairness to the players, or at least the midfield, we did have some reasonable possession and play our way back into the game in the middle of the first half. However, we again carried absolutely no goal threat and were powder-puff defensively. What has happened to the defensive discipline we displayed under Mellon ? It was far too easy for Carlisle to play through us, and they created four or five good chances in the first half from very little possession. The scoreline flattered us.

There is far too much emphasis under Dawes on tippy-tappy football without purpose in the middle third of the pitch, and far too little on defensive organisation, workrate without the ball and making life difficult for the opponent.

The second half was a tactical mess. We set up in a 4231 with Mumbongo (!) as our lone striker and Hemmings in midfield. We had barely threatened a goal all afternoon, yet our top scorers were in the middle of the pitch (Hemmings) or off the pitch altogether (Hawkes). O'Connor clearly should have started the game to give the defence more protection, yet was only introduced at two down when the horse had already bolted.

The only positive to take from the afternoon is that Dawes surely won't be here beyond the summer.

Thank heavens Micky Mellon left us in a position of safety this season. What happens next season is a real concern,

One of the ITKs suggests Turnbull has already put in a transfer request.
Explains perhaps why he has gone off the ball - I had assumed just laziness with nothing to play for - but maybe just making it clear he will down tools if not granted a move. Defence as a whole all looked like they weren't that bothered frankly and didn't intend to be here next season. Jogging back - standing in space rather than looking for their man - poor beyond belief.

First two games with Dawes in charge the players were really putting in some effort and it was good to watch. Yesterday many weren't and none looked particularly tired at the end as they had done after the prior two games. Whether he genuinely thought he had a shot at the job or not Dawes had every right to be angry with that. Playing from the back yes was an issue but the bigger issue was simply lack of effort especially in defence. 63% posession but only one daisy cutter shot from Mumbongo all afternoon. Simply not acceptable.

For the final games all the kids should be played plus the likes of Turner - Cooke another baffling signing, Stratulis (if we can get him back as an international loan), Lomax etc. At least they would run around and be eager. AM is right quite a few would ideally be fined after yesterday though can't happen of course.

Dawes is responsible for the motivation of the players, so what does it say about him if they have downed tools after three games in charge ?

I don't agree the issue is lack of effort anyway. It is a lack of organisation and discipline and inappropriate tactics, and that stems from the manager. The defence was left completely exposed at times, so again it is wrong to scapegoat four players who have actually been excellent for the majority of the season.

I found Dawes' interview perplexing as he seems to be 'furious' with the players for following precisely the game plan which he has introduced.....

In the previous two games we were paying seriously poor opposition who we still did not beat and who actually created better chances than us over the ninety minutes.

Game was effectively over by h/t.
Think you’re being a bit charitable there Boz; the game was effectively over after 3 minutes with the threat we pose upfront.
Not sure Dawes tactics are to blame for the errors as we made similar errors under Mellon. Players need to take individual responsibility for their decision making and poor execution.
One thing I would agree with, is that we seem devoid of the grit and determination required at this level; pretty football alone won’t get you anywhere.
The only light at the end of the tunnel is that the season’s nearly over which gives us a few months to forgive and forget. Sure, things could be a lot worse, but I doubt anyone’s expectations were for such an anti-climax of a season.

The club to me has the feeling of the last couple of seasons under PJ lack of investment will eventually lead to one thing

If the turnbull rumours are true then it’s not a massive shock. He’ll have regrets I’m guessing turning down a new deal at Salford where he got in the league two team of the season last year.
He was hoping for a league one club in the summer and we did well to get him. He’ll be on a decent wage by our standards but you can’t just throw your toys out of the park when things get tough

I've seen lots of effort from the players in most games I've seen so that really isn't an issue for me. The problem is lack of quality and now to make matters worse, a system the players are just not comfortable playing. It's possible we may have gone from bad to worse under Dawes.
