My concern would be having Hemmings and Nevitt up front again next season. I don't think they will score enough goals.

I see there is an online q & a with Mark and Nicola on 16th May. They tend to have a few interesting bits but otherwise tend to be quite a bit of spin.
I won't be watching it as will be on my honeymoon and not sure the wife will be impressed

With decent service I think it's a handy partnership but the service and creativity has been badly lacking especially away

Agree with this. Hemmings has the ability to score circa 20 goals but as much as Nevitt has improved we’ll need more. I still think a fit Maynard may have worked alongside Kane but we’ll probably never know.

As Mart says the Q and A will be interesting depending if they read out any of the tough questions they’ll get.

Indeed, recruitment, playing style next seasons budget the involvement of santini could all be done with being covered

Live facebook Q&A what's alternatively known as a marketing exercise to sell more season tickets.

Yes I agree with RLC. Mark and Nicola will surely know they are due to get a load of stick although that comes with the job I guess. My guess is they’ll admit the season has been disappointing as they were expecting the play offs as a minimum, notwithstanding the fact that it was a rebuilding job this season.

I’m sure they’ll suggest for next season that if we don’t make the top 7 then major decisions would be made.

Not being funny but we know that already. We don’t need MP to confirm it. What people want to know is how we are going to move forward and improve next season not how much a season ticket will cost if you renew early.

I think some people confuse winning games with entertaining football. The first half of the season was turgid as we had zero pace so had to result to hoof ball and nick something from a corner (Clarke was top scorer for a while ha ha).

Palio’s was very clear before the season that he expected us to challenge for promotion, and therefore finishing tenth can only be seen as a failure, which it is. Mellon is not an entertaining manager sadly, so I can’t see anything changing there, unless he is given a significantly superior squad to the rest, which is what he had in NL, where he was able to be more attack minded.

On the bright side, if Exeter win the league, at least we can say we did the double over the champions; evidence that we’re champion material next season ;)
Yes, but we also lost to Scunthorpe. Does that not make us National League prospects next season? ;)

Seriously, those results sun up our season - from the sublime to the ridiculous. But too much of the latter and not quite enough of the former.

The football at Prenton Park was both successful and entertaining in the majority of matches, throughout the entire season.

In fairness, there is only so much any business owner can say publicly.

They either back Mellon or sack him (I am sure it will be the former), and the detailed assessments of performance will stay behind closed doors, as they have to.

They have already given a lot of detail regarding the recruitment model.

I guess we all see things differently but I would go more towards @Charlton1975 view of the home matches. I wouldn't say it was turgid but it was not that entertaining either. We ground out results but I think for me the lack of goals was a big problem on the entertianment scale. Yes you can have entertaining draws but we want to see goals too. I really hope we improve on the attacking front next season.

Of course, but in my mind, they make out like it's this big open forum, send your questions in etc. when in reality it's a pretty controlled session of carefully picked Q&A.

I think i'm also getting more grumpier as I get older. :giggle:

I don't think that game was the turning point. Our best performance of the season against Swindon actually came after that defeat.

I think the injury to Glatzel in that Swindon game was key. Although Nevitt has improved in recent months, we never looked as fluid as an attacking side without him, and the injury to Spearing shortly prior was significant, particularly away from home. We went into a run of successive away games at Walsall without those two and lost four in a row, which is where the wheels really came off. However, irrespective of those issues our away form needs to improve.
It was a broad brush I used to paint that picture. However, in reality Swindon we’re very rusty when they played us; I did eulogise about the victory at the time, but everything needs context. Our record before and after tells a story. The FGR defeat sowed many a seed of doubt in many of us mere mortals and I’d be surprised if it didn’t have a psychological impact on some, if not all of the players, however significant that impact might have been.

Hopefully all concerned have seen the success that Exeter and FGR have got from playing exciting attacking football.

I still think it was the loss of players to injury shortly afterwards that was more significant.

Interestingly, Exeter's manager finished ninth last season and failed to make the play offs. However, his services were retained and they are now reaping the benefit.

That's a good example, so you wonder what changes were made for them to go from not making the playoffs to now automatic promotion. Did the manager change his style? did they simply recruit better players?
