On paper the visitors have a lot of experience and have local lad George in goal who I witnessed produce one of the worst goalkeeping displays ever for us when on loan v Crewe in the checkatrade trophy.

No doubt he’llhave a blinder tonight!

Shamel is not that good!
Had good prospects as a youth but was always liable to have a mare.

Good possession and some half chances. Not the best game but we are definitely the better team. A bit more pressure second half should see a goal or two.

Fantastic atmosphere especially second half in a game we fully deserved to win.

First half I thought we did well up to a point but didn’t look too threatening. Mcmanaman and hawkes had plenty of the ball and Nevitt worked his socks off but had a tough job.
Second half we kept the tempo going and hawkes cut inside and hit a shot which deflected and wrong footed George to give us the lead. Our tails were up and the all important second goal came when mcmanaman dinked in a cross and who else but Peter Clarke headed home in front of a raucous kop.
Colchester rarely threaded but doohan made a great save to keep it 2-0 and justified his place in the side with a faultless display.

a great atmosphere albeit a few muppets in the kop ran on the pitch at the end. Some great performances including foley and spearing but MOM for me went to hawkes who was dangerous all game. Onward and upward

I thought we were fantastic.

We controlled the game throughout, other than the odd flurry from Colchester on the counter attack, and the passing and movement was great to watch. We used the width of the pitch really well and played at a good tempo, but what was equally impressive was the way we worked to win the ball back high up the pitch when possession was turned over.

We look a really well balanced side now: creative, energetic and solid defensively. The only criticism is that again we should have won the game by three or four goals, and could be more ruthless in the eighteen yard box. But if we are scoring two every home game and winning comfortably, it is difficult to be too critical.

Individually, it is difficult to pick a man of the match as there were so many good displays. MacManaman and Cogley again linked up to great effect down the right. Spearing started nervously but grew into the game and was back to his imperious best. Foley ran from box to box as he has been doing for weeks now. The final shot or pass did not always come off for Hawkes, but his willingness to shoot from outside the box is vital in a team without a goalscoring striker and resulted in the first goal. Doohan made one very good save from Sears in the second half, Colchester's only real chance of the game. However, I think Morris was probably our best player once again.

We are in a very good place and a promotion challenge seems highly likely. Did we expect anything less under Micky ?

I agree chaps, great atmosphere on a Fri night, reminded me of some good times and a nice win to top it off. We were the only team threatening to be honest and I said at half time a bit more pressure would see some goals, and the lads delivered. Their performances of late have been fantastic. The work rate is there, they now like like a team instead of a team of strangers (which in fairness they were at the start of the season) and Micky seems to have them fired up and delivering the goods.

I thought there were too many good performances to name a MOTM, I all thought they worked tremendously hard and got their rewards. It's amazing what can happen after a few wins and we are now steady climbing the table.

Let's keep the momentum going. Looking forward to the next game now.

I thought we actually should have been ahead at half time: George made two great saves from close range, the first from Davies, the second at the front post from Nevitt. We got in behind them on several other occasions, but could not produce a final ball.

I agree that we were excellent tonight, playing some exciting high tempo football on the deck and using the full width of the pitch. One massive difference for me is at the back. Davies is a big upgrade on Monthe. He is far more assured on the ball and his decision-making is better

Bit of a throwback to the “good old days” that, performance wise and the place was bouncing. Long may it continue. Shame that some cognitively challenged idiots decided to stone the Colchester supporters coach.
