We really do have a significant task to pull together a team capable of being competitive in L1 next season. Given that we were the 6th best team in L2 last season - probably higher if only the matches after our January additions were counted - it is a challenge anyway. I don't expect our income is going to increase massively (£400k additional FL/TV money and an increase in season ticket sales?), yet we will have to strengthen our team including (probably) replacing our most important player. Yes, we do have some players who are definitely capable of making the step up but not all of them. Perhaps a slightly different challenge than the previous 2 seasons and I'm really interested (even excited!) to see how the manager and owner approach this. Even in L2 with an upward trajectory and one of the largest fan bases we felt like a "biggish" fish in a small pond - next season we still start with the upward trajectory but, based on attendances, are more likely to be an "average" sized fish in a bigger pond. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't swap our position or status quo with any other team in L1 but think that we may have been promoted too soon for MP to be able to deliver on his "top third budget" commitment. The season just gone has been amazing and we have over-achieved; I'll be seriously happy with a mid-table finish, increased attendances, no increase in debts, and a continued positivity around the club by the end of next season. Everything that keeps that rocket heading for the moon!
