He was probably wowed by Joey Barton’s fleetwood setup. I’d be amazed if he got through a season unscathed.

In terms of the squad, I think we’ve learnt lessons from last season and it’s going to be a much smaller squad with possible loanees if needed as the season progresses.

To be fair to Wallace we do not know why he went. Maybe he realised he would not be a first choice for MM whereas Barton was giving him some toffee about a regular place if he trials well. Who knows really. All history now.

Now we are back in the EFL, aren't the rules on loanees different? I think we can only get them inside the transfer windows and not any time as in the NL. Does anyone know?

Thought Wallace was only offered the chance to train with us at the start of this season, so if he’s had a better offer from elsewhere can you blame him? Don’t know the full details of what Fleetwood might give him. My view was it was always a mistake to give him an 18 month deal and last season think he only played once for us, so not value for money.

Only saw Green play for Rovers once, when he came on as sub for DMH at Gateshead. On that cameo, he did ok, not enough to judge. Either it was a mistake to sign him up in the first place or it will prove to be a mistake to let him go, suspect the former. It does raise questions about last season’s recruitment though.

The transfer window closes for the start of the season but think we can loan players until the end of August. Reckon there may be one or two long-term loans, but we cannot rectify mistakes with loans under this new regime, so a reasonably big squad is required.

Just Waring to bin now & we’ll have a quality but narrow squad! LB, CM, W & CF plus maybe a trialist & loanee or two...

A bit disappointing. Over two spells, we've paid him at least two years' sick pay. At the end of each contract, he's walked away. This club has done a lot for his career, while he's shown a selfish lack of respect.
A bit harsh on Wallace I think. It was pretty obvious we weren't going to offer him a deal, so he can't be blamed for moving to a club where he might get a contract.

I am pleased Green has gone as he was not good enough, and the squad is now looking a lot leaner and meaner than last season. We now have three central midfielders plus Jennings, so we don't need another centre mid if we are playing 442 in my view. Likewise I don't think we need another permanent left back, as Monthe can provide cover for Ridehalgh.

I am uneasy with a lean squad as where injuries and suspensions kick in there is the real danger of being reliant on untested youngsters. Hopefully the recent departures will free up funds to bolster the squad.

Disagree, Monthe whilst versatile cannot cover three positions in one go. If Rides has an issue for example & Manny has to cover elsewhere we’re a man shy ;)

We still have Sutton who can also play in a few positions so I think we are OK in this regard. I can see another two or three signings before things get serious.

Its fine to say we have cover in the squad if Rides is injured/suspended. But do we need a regular L.B. as mere cover isn't competition for places and if Rides proves not to be up to it there might be an issue. BTW is he suspended at start of season?

I don't think Mellon will want a specialist left back and right back sitting on the bench all season. If players are more expensive at this level, he will want to use those funds elsewhere in the squad. And for all the criticism he gets, Ridehalgh has already played many games in the Football League.

We have already got five specialist centre backs and two players who can cover Buxton at right back, excluding Monthe. So barring some domesday scenario, I don't think the situation you describe would arise.

Ellis and Monthe are primarily central defenders. While they and others can cover the full-back role, my preference would be to recruit a further specialist full-back capable of playing down both flanks. Should MM want to play with wing-backs, we don’t appear to have an obvious right-sided candidate for that role.

Elsewhere, another wide player, central midfielder and target-man type striker are still needed in my view. The manager needs enough options to deal with loss of form across the park as well as absences due to injuries and suspensions.

I'm with Boz on this one. I do think we're ok for RB but LB, CM, W & CF are required in my view, especially with seven on the bench. We can bolster anything else with loanees and maybe even a trialist although I'm not holding my breath with the latter.

First 11 (maybe with the exception of LB - still gutted Eddie has gone!) on paper looks strong enough to hold their own in this division, midfield in particular looks very good. Only worry for me is up front if Nors gets injured. Hopefully we get in an experienced striker who can be more of a traditional center forward to help Nors and Mullin out.
