Well that dreadful McAlear shot on the edge of the box pretty much sums up Tranmere threat up front today.

Lots of effort and we pretty much controlled the second half but zero goal threat.

Another away defeat, simply not good enough, this season has been extremely disappointing again and things need to change if next season will be any better

Sounded like we should have got at least a point from that game but failed to convert our possession into goals and give old rivals Forest Green a leg up in their battle to stay in the FL.Apart from that December purple patch, we struggle to turn losses int draws and draws into wins.

I don’t get Nigel’s enthusiasm for pulling O’Connor off either, but if he’s determined to do it then have an obvious right-back option in Pike or Starbuck on the bench.

Looks like a lot of huff and puff without turning our statistical advantage into goals, which is all that counts in the end. Very disappointing.

We made goal scoring look easy last week and yes, whilst FGR did have a lot of players camped in their box for most of the second half, we looked like we wouldnt score with another 80 minutes of extra time! Players are not consistent enough. We should have scored at least one against a team desperate to take away all three points.

It was getting a bit desperate putting Norris on with 30 mins left. He is clearly very rusty.

Three of our four goals last week were scored by defenders. Attacking threat is low generally,
It sounded like Tom Davies has a good chance right at the end too. However the 3 goals in the two games we lost before Stockport were all scored by attacking players and there were 17 goal attempts today, so seems the problems more with conversion. The Doncaster defeat followed a similar pattern.
Some suggestion we were set up more as a 4411 at times reliant on a titchy Saunders or rusty Luke Norris as striker, which felt like a misguided approach by the manager, if correct.

Agree completely with that. A pointless substitution that left us unbalanced on that side of the pitch, and restricted Apter's impact.

A lacklustre performance. We probably deserved a draw on the balance of play, but I thought it was a hugely disappointing display given the context.

We started the game sluggishly, as we have on a few occasions recently, and our football in the first thirty minutes was laboured and lacking any real quality. FGR are clearly a much better organised side now under Cotterill and they made life awkward for us, while also arguably looking sharper in the final third. Towards the end of the half we did finally find some tempo and there were a couple of good attempts by Apter. However, as so often happens in matches where you don't really have a grip of proceedings, Forest Green promptly opened the scoring against the run of play.

I expected a big response after half time, but it never really arrived. We had lots of the ball, but the hosts sat deep and we looked fairly clueless as to how to break them down. The substitutions were peculiar and did not really help us: Jennings and Norris up front, both of whom kept coming short for the ball and did not offer any threat in behind, Saunders stuck out on the left wing, and Norris at right back who constantly came inside into traffic on his left foot, instead of overlapping and providing an option for Apter.

Not a great day for the majority of the players or the manager.

I thought McGee and the two centre halves did ok, and Apter had a good game. Without him we would have created next to nothing. Fair play to Forest Green who look much more resilient under their new manager and might well stay up.

An afternoon to forget.

As a further point, I thought McAlear was really poor again today. I appreciate that Walker probably can't play three games in a week and needed to be rested, but I think Merrie offers more as a replacement defensive midfielder / playmaker.
