Lee Vaughan signs a new 1 yr deal. Another good signing brining further continuity to the back line for the new season. Just need a new left back now.

Rovers (and Barrow) strongly linked with Ben Heneghan of Chester. A 22 year old England C international (out of contract) who was with Everton/Stoke as a youngster. Very highly rated by Chester fans who are unimpressed having lost John Rooney to Wrexham.
Good news about Vaughan. Yes, Heneghan is highly rated and according to the Chester Chronicle four Championship clubs were looking at him a few weeks ago. You'd hope we'd be more attractive than Barrow, but not the other clubs.

Can't see Sutton staying if he wants games. Pleased about Vaughan, decent attacking full back at this level. Still think there's a few sneaky signings to come.

Not sure what to expect from Wrexham next season, they've signed about 10 players so far!

Barrow have snapped up Turnbull from Macc who was their skipper and centre half last season. Whether that may mean Sutton will stay with us remains to be seen.

Sutton played mainly at right-back for Barrow, so don't see that as an issue.

Good that we've got an out and out right-back signed up for the start of next season.

I like Vaughan and I am pleased he has signed. With the majority of the players we want to keep now under contract, it will make a pleasant change to have some familiar faces at the club next season, rather than the revolving door of loanees and players on short-term deals we have become used to in recent years.

As regards our playing style under Brabin, I would not say we were a long ball team. We play more football than most sides at this level and our midfield possession is good at times. However, a lot of the midfield play is pedestrian and dull and we have lacked a cutting edge; hopefully that problem is now being addressed.

With regard to Wrexham, I have not been impressed with their transfer dealings so far. Most of their decent players have left and been replaced by journeymen or unproven players from lower divisions. Offering one-year contracts seems to have hurt them badly and I would be surprised if they are seriously challenging for promotion next season. Barrow and Gateshead appear more of a threat at this stage, and I still think Torquay might be a good outside bet.

Very true. We know these players can do a good job at this level and with the additions so far it looks promising. The key to next season will be consistency.

The squad is coming together nicely and my earlier fears appear to be unfounded. We don't seem to have lost any key players unlike recent seasons. I'll reserve final judgement until August, but I now expect us to start the season with a better squad than finished last season. Already it looks better than what we had last August. I'm not expecting to see many trialists this time round. However we still need at least six more players as we can't sign any more temporary loanees.

Mekki the next to stay having signed a new 1 year deal. Still a bit overrated I think and drifted out of some games because of his fitness, but on his day he was often our most dangerous midfielder at home.

Still need more pace and creativity from midfield and a set piece specialist in my opinion. Our link with Darren Stephenson of Chorley would bring pace at least.

Pleased with this signing which means we have now kept hold of literally every player we wanted to. We certainly don't have any problem with recruitment at this level, so let's hope Brabin can get the best out of his squad next season.

Really good news and a young player who can only get better with more game time, particularly as he should have more target men to hit next season.

Good news, if only because he brings something no-one else in the squad has. As with all these delayed contract signings, you wonder why it took so long. Are their agents given time to look for better deals? Or do the negotiations over pay and length of contract take a lot of time? I see he's signed a "one-year deal .... with the option of a further 12 months". What does this mean? Who has the option? I presume it's the club. If so, why should a player agree to such a one-sided arrangement?

All good questions BBTC but I think holidays sometimes play a part. I know I often focus on young players but LIverpool have just released one or two decent ones but whether they are of interest to Gary or whether they are interested in him is a moot point. O'Hanlon is not a bad midfielder. Not sure Kolo would be interested though! (LOL!).

Good news on Mekki. He like Maynard has experienced fitness issues with the demands of the full-time game, but offers something different. There was mention of interest from a FL side, no idea if true. Hopefully he can develop further.

None of the trio of first year pros, who've been out on loan lower down the pyramid and offered further deals have signed up as yet. The benefits of the strategy of farming them out to build them up may questioned if we don't get the reward for this.

That leaves Evan Gumbs, who many rate highly but who hasn't had a look in since his debut at Luton in League Two eighteen months ago. I have to say, if I were him, I'd be speaking to GB about whether I will be in the first-team squad or farmed out again next season. If the latter, I think I'd be looking for another club in the NL.

I hope you're right bigmart.

Sort of agree with BBTC. Pilling is the one of the trio who'd I'd expected to move elsewhere, given Davies and Turner both ahead of him in the pecking order. Unless the latter is going to concentrate on his coaching and Luke is on the bench.

Gumbs looked reasonable at Luton and was recalled from loan to sit on the bench when we had an injury crisis last season, so Brabin must have a higher opinion of him than most of our youngsters. Hope he stays. Interesting that Duggan who started life as a midfielder spent most of his loan spell deployed at right-back.

Duggan, Gumbs and Pilling all signed contracts on 3rd May
What's your source, Mal?

Good news if correct, but after the trio were offered new deals, seen nothing mentioned.
