We are signing Nya Kirby on loan from Palace according to Peter O'Rourke. He is a twenty year old midfielder and had eleven games on loan at Blackpool a couple of seasons ago.

He seems very highly rated.

If he was good enough for Blackpool when only 18, he should be able to play in League Two now he's nearly twenty-one. He played regularly for England youth sides up to U-19, but clearly needs some first-team football.

Kirby (Nya not Jake), signs until the end of the season. Sounds like an attacking players as he mentions assists and goals.

I'm a bit puzzled by this tbh. While Nya is likely to be an upgrade on what we've got and quality loanees are always welcome, attacking midfield isn't the area that we're most thin on the ground in the current squad. Hopefully we've still got funds for right-back and striker cover.

Not sure I agree really. Banks was the only conventional creative midfielder we had, and Kirby is a replacement for him. Prior to signing Nya, our central midfield consisted of Spearing and Lewis which was insufficient, particularly considering Spearing's age and the fixture congestion this season.

None of Morris, Lloyd, Feeney, CBT etc. are central midfielders.

Remember we’ve just lost two attacking midfielders - Olly Banks and Otis Khan, who’ve moved to Barrow and right-back respectively. ;)

It's arguably easier to move a wide midfielder into the centre of midfield than move a midfielder to right-back, as we've done with Khan.

You could not play Feeney or Morris alongside Spearing in a 442. We need more than two central midfielders at the club. It would be an accident waiting to happen otherwise.

We've survived with only one defensive midfielder and one right-back though

But we could not survive with only two central midfielders full stop. What would happen if they were both injured or suspended, which is perfectly possible ?

You can play someone out of position at right back, but not central midfield. It is too important a position.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I'd say full-back is a more specialist position than central midfielder.

The spine of the team is always more important than the wide areas, and I would say the centre of midfield is the hardest position on the pitch to play out of position.

Not sure whether hill will play 4-4-2 (even though I’m a fan of it), but I agree that the two recognised centre mids spearing and Lewis do need some competition. The latter in particular has done ok of late but overall hasn’t stood out so I’d like someone better if available.
