I wonder if we’ll get the option of signing him because he has been excellent.

I think he signed a new contract with Celtic last summer ? That does not mean it is impossible of course.

I think that we've had a few decent keeper loans over the years.

My reservations on Micky opting for Ross rather than Joe have been dispelled by his good form since keeping the shirt after Joe returned to fitness. He's come on significantly, there is a better understanding with his defence and he's earned us points in some games, a decent late save v Orient for example. Agree that it's unlikely we'll get to buy him, but there might be an option of another season's loan, particularly if we get promoted.

That was rumoured to have happened but there seems to be nothing official that I can see
He signed a 4-year deal with Celtic in 2018 before embarking on two loan seasons with my hometown club (Ayr Utd). By the summer he will have spent all 4 years of his contract out on loan. Micky did mention a new contract at Celtic when we first brought him in but, as bigmart says, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of this. I'd love us to sign him in the summer if we can but it could be down to what we can offer financially......

Suggestion by Alan Nixon that Hemmings move from Burton to Salford may have hit a snag and we might might step in...

Kane Hemmings is a journeyman striker with a decent scoring record at a number of clubs. He has been in and out of Burton's team this season and an offer from Salford City has been accepted. It won't be a large one, as Kane is 30 and his contract runs out in June, but a transfer fee will be involved. I don't know what the snag is, but if Rovers can jump in and steal him at the last moment, I would be happy. Whatever happens, this sort of rumour gives us hope that money will be made available to strengthen the squad for our promotion push if the right player becomes available.

Sam Taylor one of our Academy players who is a striker has signed a professional contract today. MP talking about this being part of our new pathway approach. Scored 11 times for the U18s apparently this season already. Positive if we are finding youth players again who stand a chance of making it...

I would be very happy if we signed him but think the fee together with wages will be beyond us

The problem is that we have had youngsters on our books who have gone to prem teams and we have had very little compensation due to the rules.

thats why they have moved to tie him down good on the club for seeing this we love homegrown players
I have to disagree with that statement, the only reason we have signed first year pros is to qualify with league rules, as we are not retaining their contracts after that One season. We are bringing other clubs youngsters at 15, in to make up the numbers for our youth team. We do not have a proper academy no more. It was closed after Elite players performance plan came in.
We will struggle go bring any class players through that are good enough for League Two or above.

And it will be very difficult to have a FA funded academy.again, a lack of foresight has created a bigger hole, as we, as long as I can remember been a selling club. The Merseyside area is renown for the number of league professionals. It was quoted by a well known pro that there must be a Scouser in every dressing room in every club in the country, and we are missing out on this.

My opinion of course, helmet reinforced!!!!!

Quite possibly out of our price range but you never know.
Wouldn’t be a bad signing. Would definitely bring a physical presence and has scored in leagues one and two. A decent age at 29 and may prefer a move back to the north west being ex Blackpool but currently at hearts and not getting regular game time

Always a difficult one. You have to weight up the total cost of the Academy against the likely 'player financial return' over time either through onsales of homegrowns to larger clubs or the negation of the need to bring players in from outside because there are adequate homegrown players. That said, any decision has to be taken in the context of the overall financial position of the Club. The decision to close the Academy was due to the Club being unwilling or unable to accept any possible financial loss from the exercise. I am sure that Liverpool, who have a much vaunted Academy, are able to take that risk given their overall financial situation. In their case it has undoubtedly been a worthwhile risk to take. How much would it cost to sign a full back as good as Alexander-Arnold? Certainly, more than any annual loss from running the Academy I would think.
As regards scousers around the country, as we all know, these days the big clubs hoover up any one with potential so I would suspect that many of the journeymen round and about were part of a big club set up at some stage. They would not have featured in a Tranmere Academy if it had still been in operation. All players with ambition want to compete at the top level and not many would join a Tranmere, as opposed to a Liverpool Academy, if asked? Maybe a few but not many.
This is all surmise of course!! (LOL!)
