Now here is an irony. After our rugby team beat theirs in Argentina, their coach claimed our rugby players were disrespectful because they sang too loudly in the dressing room after the match.

The Argentina rugby team had just played England in replica 1986 World Cup football shirts! So much for respect. Perhaps next time we should play in Falklands War veterans uniforms.
And after the disgraceful scenes after the football semifinal when the Malvinas banner was held by their players, I don’t think Argentina have any room to complain about lack of respect.
 
Argentina are a hard watch, no shots, no touches in the Spain penalty area, not a good half of football
 
Only one yellow card and it took 40 minutes. Spain are doing well not to retaliate.

For World Cup finalists, these two sides are desperately short of quality strikers. What wouldn’t they give for a Kane or Mbappe?
 
Probably not a popular opinion, but I thought Argentina's defensive organisation and resilience was remarkable. To have virtually no possession and no shots on goal in ninety minutes, and still be frustrating Spain prior to the red card, was remarkable.

I agree they defended well but they showed no ambition to score until they fell behind. And with a stricter referee, they may have been down to ten men a lot earlier.

If Tranmere played every match like that, I would be ashamed not proud.

Spain deserved to win. The ref could have been harder earlier but was trying to avoid being like the ref who sent Rattin off after 20 mins against England in 1966! England blew it in the semi my irritation not helped by the little Malvinas episode afterwards.

It was a poor game for a World Cup Final. Baffling why Argentina were so negative for much of the match, given they posed some real goal threat in the last ten minutes of added time. Glad Spain won as a much less cynical approach, but they weren’t at their best and the Spanish team come a fair way down the list of great World Cup winners.
