    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

World Cup 2026

For all the criticism Southgate got for caution and negativity, at the biggest moment Tuchel does the same with knobs on.

For the first sixty minutes we were good and I think we had a genuine chance if we had stayed on the front foot.

Couldn't agree more.

I’ve not seen all of England’s games, but one goal was never going to be enough and it was surprising how negatively Tuchel set the side up after taking the lead, even if a similar approach had worked in other games.

The tactics were particularly baffling, as Tuchel built a squad to play counter attacking football.

We got into precisely the position we wanted which would enable us to counter attack, at 1-0 up with the opposition coming on to us, but took off our attacking players with pace and mobility and sat deep.

Launching it to Big Dan Burn up front was desperate stuff.
Reece James moved to CM and Konsa to RB. James did well where he was - did we not have any centre miss on the bench. Square pegs when you have a squad that size is a joke.

Cowardice from Tuchel, who is a top coach on big money. Easy with hindsight but Saka and Rashford should have been at 60 mins to stretch the game. To defend for 30 mins against the world champs was not bright. One unkind commentator said it was like a L2 team trying to defend a lead against a PL team in the FA Cup!

Sounds like Rovers last season hahaha

I agree with everything everyone has posted, for anyone who watched Tranmere playing last season, knew what the end result would be, once England ditched their game plan and tried to battle out a defencive 1-0, it was never going to happen. They had their chance of reaching the World Cup final and blew it.

There was something one of the players said after the game, he said that the instructions from the Manager were to attack, attack but the players just didn't do it. The fault may not all be Tuchel's, with the changes being an attempt to shore things up with the players not following his instructions. We see it as baffling tactical choices mirroring Southgate's apparent failings, maybe there is more than an element of it being the players tightening up, losing confidence and panicking with the managers then helpless to change things. In truth, I think he got the squad selection wrong in a number of key areas, not least not having Alexander Arnold there. It says something though when we are so angry at losing in a semi final where it's not that long ago we were out within the first two games. We have made progress, just not yet enough. The thing is though, we were 'sold' on Tuchel's tactical genius, that he would study the opposition and find a way to beat them, yet he doesn't seem to have watched what Argentina have been doing all tournament. I'm of the firm opinion he should be sacked. I'd have loved to have had Klopp but he would always go to Germany. Pep is already favourite to be the next England Manager.

I was 100% with you until about halfway through. I don’t believe Tuchel should be sacked. Let’s see how we do in the Euros.

He matched Southgate, got us to the semis and restored some pride. You can either blame him for his subs or you can point to England’s basic errors and slack marking. The first scorer was unmarked, as was Messi before he crossed for their winner. Both were player errors. He did tell the players to attack and go for a second, but they got pushed back.

To be fair to Tuchel, and as he said himself, we were already becoming far too passive even before the substitutions. But Gordon and Spence had also largely snuffed out the space down our left that Messi then revelled in once Gordon was taken off for Konsa, so I think that’s the change that might haunt Tuchel once he’s had chance to properly analyse and reflect on everything.

Some of the hysteria around sacking the manager is nonsense. It was his first tournament in international football and somebody of his calibre will surely have learned a lot from it so, for me, he absolutely deserves the chance to prove it and go again in the Euros.

Tuchel won't be sacked.

However, considering he was hired purely on the basis that he is an elite tactician that could finally get England over the line in a tournament, and given that his lamentable tactical performance in the second half was far worse than anything seen in tournament football under Southgate or his predecessors, he could not complain if he was fired.

Absolute rubbish and the reason he won’t be sacked is because doing so would be an act of sheer stupidity. And he, as much as anyone else, would certainly be entitled to complain about an act of sheer stupidity.

I have already said he won't be sacked, although I am sure the FA now have some regrets regarding his costly contract extension. But managers at the elite level lose their jobs for far less, as Tuchel himself knows from experience.

And when it comes to talking rubbish on here......

I know you did, and I then explained to you why.

Not by any rationally-thinking national body after their appointee’s first crack at international football.

And when it comes to talking rubbish on here......
Yes, your years of intensive practice on the internet now has it down to a fine art..

At least you don’t use a childish ‘thumbs down’ just because your opinion is far more important than someone else’s!!!

I know you did, and I then explained to you why.
