Very close to giving away a pen there. We need more pressure on their defence.

Colchester probably should have been given a penalty.looked to me like contact from Macdonald inside the area. Evening up for the Newport one. Defensively we’re looking a bit patchy so far and only glimpses in attack.

Not great now after good start. Colchester better. Why is Hemmings being played out wide? Nevitt is getting caught offside.

Can't string two passes together in their half. Need to do better. I'm sure we'll have a great second half though

We've actually forced the keeper into a save at last through Nevitt

Ohhh, needed more composure from Nevitt there. His shot was saved by George in goal, he got to the rebound and blasted it across the goal. He had two players free in the box.

Despite the league positions of both sides it’s a fairly even half. The hosts lobbed a good chance wide over Murphy and had a good shout for a penalty not given. The longer the half went on we started to create some chances with Nevitt and Hemmings forcing decent saves from George.
Hawkes has practically been a spectator. Not a bad half but we still need more attacking threat against let’s face it, a poor Colchester side

I thought we improved towards the end of the half with efforts from Nevitt and Hemmings. As Sparky mentions Hawkes quiet and Macdonald doing very little attacking so the left hand side suppressed. The referee, possible penalty rejection aside doesn’t seem to be giving us much. Could go either way.

Agree re the peno. It was inside the area. But we have had other decisions go against us.

We improved in the last quarter. We need a goal to settle the nerves. Merrie has been the lynchpin and is playing confidently. I think we could win this if we play like we did just before half-time. We are giving it everything but the moves aren’t coming off.

Ohh, Nevitt with a screamer. Goerge tips it wide.
