Quote from OS:

"I had a little chat with the Chairman this morning and said that if we do sell him we'll be able to bring in a couple of more expensive players and he said yes. Although it wasn't a definite conversation about how much we can have, I think he's thinking that way."

Well, without committing himself too much, it is a start :)

I guess it depends how much we get. I expect a good/established player at this level would cost in the region of £150-200k over the course of a 2 year contract. If Jenno does indeed go for £800k+* up-front, this maybe doesn't seem like too much to ask. Couldn't really blame the chairman for using it to pay off part of the debt we owe him, though this does not seem to be his intention (at least publicly).

We'll see. This is PJ afterall. Besides, we are still, to some degree, reliant on transfer revenue to breakeven each year.

*Edit: Misread that initial post by whoever it was quoting £1.5m. Thought the figure quoted was without add-ons.

Not what I understood from what Les, said, Sonkorly. Jennings money would be available for 'better quality' players.

Cresswell and Jennings where the only real goal threat last season and every one on here is so "not bothered" ?

Quality costs and we got none!!!!

3 years of struggle, no wonder no one is resigning...

fans are in cookoo land imop. after a couple of freak results towards the back end last season....

by the way sonkorly all the fees mentioned (re jennings) where 500k, but you stuck another 300k on,so the sun readers here would,nt know the difference!!!

very clever...

can,t wait for the pre-season...heswall my first game ..!

Enoch was our top scorer.

I think it's right that we will miss both of these, but it was always likely that Aaron would move on and Dale was never going to sign a new deal, so selling him now means more money than if we let his contract run out. Actually feel that we'll miss Cresswell more, because of the lack of another decent set-piece specialist in the side.

Not a sun reader! Been a supporter since 1968 so have seen a lot of comings and goings. The last 10 years have seen the tv money influence to a degree that we have to accept that money makes success. No amount of pj slagging will make a difference. You won't get anyone to buy out tranmere's because there isn't a business case. Tranmere's doesn't make money, period. The players ofthe late 90s let tranmere's down, not PJ. I don't even know PJ but without him we'd be dead in the water. If any of you can come up with a sensible way of getting the money on to guarantee success instead of whingeing about 'de management' then do something. We sure as hell need it!!!

If robbo signs which rumour has it he will then surely he will help the creativity side, of course we will miss dale & cressa but defensively i think zoom is better but clearly wont contribute anywere near as much going forward

Already you cant help having that sinking feeling before a ball has been kicked. Last season Cressa and Jenno showed some real quality in patches and to replace their quality with like for like or better is gong to cost money we just dont have. I imagine they were only on small wages so the chances of replacing them with anyone of nearly the same quality is virtually non existent.
Pj will not give Les all of the transfer money most will go toward keeping the club running and some may even go into PJ's pocket. Les will be given a small percentage of the money to go out and tryu and replace those players who have either left or been released. That is if we manage to keep hold of the rest of the players we have here. There are rumours that both McChrystal and Enoch are attracting interest from elsewhere. Even with these 2 players we still look thin on the ground:

Gk: Coughlin
Lb: Zoom
Cb: Goodison
Cb: McChrystal
Rb: Kay
Mid: Welsh
Mid: Ladabie
Mid: Weir
Att: Akins
Att: Robinson
Att: Enoch

subs:
McGurk
Power
Taylor
Mahon?

And that is pretty much it. We have 3 defensive minded midfielders no wingers 1 person as defensive cover 1 goal keeper 1 extra midfielder and 1 extra striker. (Dont include Mahon as he will be injured most of the season.)

Les needs to get his hands out of his pockets and start making some phone calls asap as the team are back for pre season very soon and our squad has relegation written all over it. Mainly because there will be absolutely no creativity in it.

The club are in talks with a number of players and after Jult 1st things will start to move along, i really dont see why so much negativity at this stage there is along way to go till the season starts & there will be a lot of players looking for teams.

Also, at this stage last season did anyone relly think Dale would make such an impact as he did, whos to say somebody else wont have a similar impact.

Its a fair point about the impact he had but to be fair his quality had been spoken about for a long time and it was no surprise that he exploded onto the scene the way he did. Currently with the exception of Stockton there is very little else coming through with the same kind of creativity and flair.
What concerns me bigmart is that Les is going to go down the line of signing more kids released from bigger clubs than us. We need a proven goal keeper, at least 1 other defender, 2 wingers, a creative midfielder, and a decent striker (not a target man). I dont want a team full of short term loanees who dont give a toss so that when you go to the game you have no idea who is actually playing in the white shirt.

Just a couple of other bits Jones has signed a new deal with Rochdale and Koumas looks like he is going to Sheff Wed. Shay Logan has joined Brentford.

Also looks likely that Donaldson is joining Oldham with Cody McDonald. Seems like they were impressed with what Mr Dickov had to say.

Blimey. Just come back from my jollies and a lot has changed in a week.

I don't think the departure of Cresswell and Jennings is any real surprise (although the size of the potential fee for Jennings is a pleasant surprise), but with Warner and / or McChrystal and Robinson going, I do worry that we will end up signing triallists as replacements a couple of weeks before the start of the season, and have the kind of inconsistent start of the previous two years.

If Les is to be offered additional funds as a result of these deals, bringing in players with decent experience is going to be key if we are going to avoid the kind of imbalance in the squad that we had at least up until the New Year.

Not sure of the legal practicalities concerning our option to extend Mark Mac's contract, but expect that any club wanting to take him from us may have to part with a fee. Enoch has another year left on his contract, would be very surprised if anyone was willing to pay money for him.

Bigmart is right - things will start moving in July. As I said before, we still have a lot of decent players under contract or poised to sign. Everyone needs to chill.

F**k Danny Holmes as well. If he's been released by TNS, who didn't even win the Welsh Prem last year, then what use is he to us? Surely we can do better.
Not according to Les. Danny signs on a 1-year deal.

Danny Holmes is not exactly a marquee signing, but is probably meant as cover for Michael Kay (assuming Kay signs on 1st July!). I have a feeling he might turn out to be a useful signing, now he has a second chance.

BTW, you often hear Wikipedia being slagged off, but it has a page of career details for Danny which has even been updated today to include his new club. Very impressive.

Les says Danny Holmes has improved as a footballer but I can't see how he can do so to a significant level in the welsh premier league. I'm getting the feeling we are about to see the trend of last few seasons where we take on inadaquate trialists followed by rushed signings (Kay and weir being the exception), hope I'm proved wrong.

It seems like this deal for Danny was always in the pipeline. As and when monies from other sales come in, we will see where we go. However the up-front figure mooted for Jennings, £500k, doesn't offer much hope. Can't help feeling that if Les had offered new deals to a couple of the released players like Collister/Blanchard, we'd have been in a stronger position to hit the ground running. Then again, Akins hasn't signed up as yet, maybe not.

I suppose if you look at Holmes as a replacement for Wood (sort of) it's less depressing.

Agree with Boz about Max, but less sure of the logic behind wanting both Collister and Coughlin tied to full-time deals (as either would be second choice in any case)

His resigning is not hugely exciting but it is only a one year deal and he is only 22. A local to boot who is keen to get another chance. He was in the Welsh League team of the season last year (not the Premier League I know!). I am sure he will not be on big money so a useful addition to the squad imo. The signings past 1st July will be key really.
