Whatever system he goes for must surely be better than Brabin's clunky 4-5-1. I don't think our squad is suited to a 4-4-2 formation as we don't have any traditional wingers in the Morrissey / Nevin mould that deliver crosses into the box, just forwards who can also play wide. Even Mekki is not a good crosser of the ball.

For example if a particular opponent is causing problems, then something will be changed during the match to appropriately nullify the problem, assuming the players are up to it.
