    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

World Cup 2026

I expected a dour game, so was surprised how the match turned out. A good start to the tournament four goals and three points can't be faulted, the defence needs working on as better teams than Croatia to come, later in the tournament but very pleased with the start.
It was a cracking match. We've had big scores before of course , not least 2022, but not against teams so good. This is actually the first time we've beaten a top 15 team at the World Cup since 2002, let alone the way we did it (should really have been 6 or 7) and it wasn't as though Croatia played particularly badly. Though this is England, so there will always be some fear from the fans that we'll revert to type, though along with a believe we can win it, only this time, the first game has perhaps, shown rather more justification for any belief than we've had, perhaps since 1982. Yes the Defence needs some work, though the fact there can be improvement has to be encouraging too, though ultimately, as long as you score more than your opponent, of course you'll always win, and I'd far, far, far prefer looking to kill games off than sitting back and trying to hold on to a 1 goal lead.

Spain 3 up v Saudi Arabia after 25 minutes, Yamal starting has made a difference

Far too easy for Spain.

A truly magnificent performance. They played with skill and no fear. If they had been a bit more cautious, they could have won. But they are a joy to watch. It shows the Spain draw was no fluke.

A great performance by Ecuador against a very ordinary Germany side.

The Germans were already through and I don’t think they really got out of 1st gear. Ecuador needed to win.

Australia drew with Paraguay. A bore draw but if you go through the Australian team man for man most play at Championship level either in England or overseas. A better outcome than Scotland which does not have the quality of players it did fifty years ago.

With the expansion of the World Cup and a number of the third placed teams being eligible for the knock out rounds, there are going to be more of those don't lose type last games to enable qualification for the next stage. A retrograde step in my view.

True, but I don't think it is a great Germany side. They have not really impressed in any of the games.

They lack dynamism and Wirtz and Sane have been disappointing.

England have qualified for the next round and after another draw Cape Verde have also qualified which is an amazing achievement and they will play Argentina

Looks like Senegal for England. Not easy. Australia play Egypt which will be interesting!

Panama 0 - 0 England HT

We were ok, but we are very reliant on Bellingham and Kane.

Then again, you could say the same about Argentina and Messi, Brazil and Vinicious, and so on.

It is a pity Olise didn't choose England.

The player of the tournament so far for me. Unreal talent.

A shocking start from England 1 down and very poor in possession
