    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

The Squad 26/27

1. if worse comes to the worst there will be a loanee keeper until McGee is fit
2. the new goalkeeper coach will have been assessing the trialists so if he doesn't think they have found the right one yet....
3. there may even be a young keeper brought in as a backup and to be coached for the future - maybe looking for a Joe Murphy mark II (speculation on my part)

Clarke says he wants to get the right players in based on what he wants, not just bring in to boost numbers.

I'm not in panic mode

We need 2 keepers, one with experience and probably 1 younger.

Exactly, and he’s emphasised more than once that he’ll be looking to do so up to the end of the window, not necessarily by the start of the season. Which will be the same for almost every club, given how the market works and given the window doesn’t shut until weeks after the season’s started. And that’s leaving aside the implications of a takeover possibly being completed by then.

That said, I think we can also rely on him to have a keeper in place for the Rochdale game!

So I too am not in panic mode.

We either have had experienced keepers beyond coaching, maybe a very part time mentoring, or those beyond help. We certainly don't need one to coach substandard other people's kids

I don't know much about the ex Accrington no 2, though Higgy's inside knowledge didn't make him sound like a must have, while my knowledge of the other triallist is limited to the fact he's the son of our goalie coach. You would think by now, ten days from our first competitive match, a decision could be made. There are some decent out of contract keepers from this level out there, or assuming Port Vale aren't asking the earth for him, Marosi remains transfer-listed and would have some knowledge of the defenders he'd be working with.

It is arguably harder for a keeper to come in at a late stage and hit the ground running than an outfield player. It surprises me that given the zero fit keepers in the squad when he became manager, that it hasn't been more of a priority for Clarke to get a goalie signed up early. Or maybe he has and been turned down by them all?

I would definitely take Marosi but think the 2 who have been training with the club will join which would be very underwhelming. I can also see Baker-Richardson and Ince signing

I'm not getting the love for Marosi. I thought he was distinctly average if I am honest - he is after all Vale's third choice. More importantly he has another year on his Vale contract so surely he would be looking for a 2 year deal right now if he was to move which makes absolutely no sense in my book unless we believe that McGee is not coming back and we wanted him as back up for a new No. 1. However, Clarke sounded reasonably positive on McGee last time he spoke.

Marosi is a much better option than the 2 we currently have on trial, if we can get better than him then great, however I'm not sure we can do.

As for McGee he will have been out for at least 12 months when he returns so will take a fair amount of time to get match fit.

You have to ask will he come back

Kelly is a big lad with a big personality. He'd be good in the dressing room. He wasn't overweight or anything, but was tall and a solid unit. However, for me, he didn't seem as agile as I would like. TBF to Kelly he had Ollie Wright on loan from Southampton in his way for his last year. Wright will go on to bigger things sooner than later.
He's probably a decent journeyman at this level. Not too much evidence for both, but I'd have slight preference for Marosi.

I haven't seen them. On what do you base your assessment? Haven't they only played a half each (Blackpool) - not sure who was in for the other game. Have you seen them play for other teams?

Michael Kelly is 30 and in 2 seasons at Accrington played 15 times and they released him. Jensen is 20 and never played a senior game of football yet, if we can't do better than either or both of them then we are in trouble

If he’s good enough and Clarke and Jensen rate him, he’s worth a deal. Remember Scott Davies was Fleetwood’s number two keeper when we signed him.

From the other site this is where it looks like where we are at.... tomorrow's game may well give a clue to some of these of course!

Jensen - not confirmed if still on trial
Kelly - not confirmed if still on trial
Scott - contract offered
McEvilly - contract offered
Veevers - contract offered
Ince - suggestion deal done but will not sign until 1st August so as to retain Watford salary
Vale - no update
CBR - still on trial

Otherwise some hints that we are also looking at the following for keeper Harrison Male ex York, Christy Pym, and Joe Wollacot ex Crawley keeper.

Very disappointingly PFA have just posted that there is no live stream of tomorrow's pre-season friendly against a PFA XI...
