The Squad 26/27

Blackpool were defeated 2-0 by Tranmere Rovers in their second pre-season friendly of the summer. Charlie Whitaker and Jordan Davies were both on hand with goals for the home side either side of the break. The Seasiders looked disjointed throughout due to the current number of players unavailable, with several figures forced to take on new roles out of position, as Olly Casey, Fraser Horsfall, Michael Ihiekwe, George Honeyman, Leighton Clarkson and Tom Bloxham all sat on the sidelines we had the first real opportunity of the game through Zac Ashworth. The defender found himself with a free header in the box from an Albie Morgan corner, but saw his attempt blocked on the line, with Dale Taylor also denied on the rebound. Andy Lyons | Gareth Evans / Blackpool FC Down the other end, a number of half chances came Tranmere’s way, before a long distance shot from Whitaker provided Bailey Peacock-Farrell with his first testing moment. The midfielder wouldn’t be denied with his next attempt just after the half hour mark, as he successfully found an effective touch to turn in a cross from the right side, with Andy Lyons slipping a couple of times in the build-up. After the break, Rovers trialist Jack Vale came close to doubling the home side’s advantage, but was denied by substitute goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli. Moments later, the Argentine was unable to stop an effort from Davies - who curled a superb shot into the top left corner. Blackpool played the final 30 minutes with a team made up of predominantly kids, with Oluchi Nwankwo almost scoring with his first contribution - putting a header just wide. Meanwhile, a strong challenge from the 17-year-old’s defensive colleague George Elder stopped Tranmere from extending their lead further heading into the closing stages.

Ironside missus went into labour, Conlon left out as precaution should be available Tuesday, Watson out 3/4 weeks. Play Stockport this Tuesday, PFA next Friday then Altrincham the following Tuesday oh and there's going to be a signing on Monday
 
so out of the trialists that played on saturday which ones would you give a contract too and which ones not?

for me so far, Ince in, Davis in (possible conditional wages), Jensen in, and look at the others after a few games.

One year deal for Davies and maybe the keeper Kelly. Wouldn’t sign Jensen and the jury is still out for Ince. Nothing of note yesterday and didn’t stand out. Hard to judge on one half of course but I hope we don’t blow some of our budget on his wages and big name

Hes got the class and quality to get us up the pitch and retain possession, once fully fit he should be a standout at this level

I hope so Mart. I just wonder about fitness at his age and the rough and tumble of league two will be very different from the time and space of the championship. Plus he’ll be used to having much better players around him.
 
There seems to be some positive comment elsewhere on Charlie Veevers the ex Burnley youngster we’re trialling, any thoughts?

Hard to evaluate from a game where neither got tested much, but should Rovers be looking at different keeper options thsn the pair currently on trial?

Veevers showed a couple of promising moments on Saturday but only had 45 minutes and that was the stop start second half with all the subs.

I’d possibly sign keeper Kelly as he has some experience albeit his CV is nothing to write home about. I’d like something better but perhaps that’s all we can afford.
Brian Jensens lad looked a bit short to me for a keeper and fairly raw. Then again he is a young lad so wouldn’t be number one.

Ref Kelly - he has always been no.2 the last two years at Accy. Albeit he was behind a top young loanee last season, who will surely play at a much higher level.
 
Whilst Luke is in the books I'd expect a proper keeper and a loanee coming in. Like last year we aren't going to have three keepers in a squad for one team.
 
Some rumours that I hope aren’t true. Ince deal has fallen through and he’s on trial at Port Vale. Jordan Davies also not signing.

Also says Conlon out for 12 weeks but I’m sure DC said it was a minor issue.

Hopefully a load of nonsense but may explain no announcement tonight when DC said there would be
 
Actually it’s a load of nonsense. Although I’m still wondering why we’ve not announced anything tonight
