Absolutely magnificent! I thought we'd blown it by not taking our three good first half chances, then Kay goes and does that. Superb strike. Knocked them sideways. Apart from a brief spell midway through the second half we battered them. 2-0 flattered them. All that without our top scorer.

Everyone stood out in their own ways, even dear old Bas. Special mention for the kids: Gornell, Barnett and Shotton all immense. And Goodison and Chorley, the latter came on to a solid game after a tricky start.

We can - we must build on this. This is what we are capable of.....

Goodison was magnificent, Shotton and Taylor brilliant, Jennings and Kay hardworking, Barnett tormented them and Gornell was superb. Everyone was at least a 8/10! Best performance of the season by miles.

Yeah, the whole team was superb. I dont want to pick anyone out as they were all just as good. Now thats what we want to see. Passion, commitment, energy. It was all there. Now we need to move forward, pick up 3 pts on Sat and the fight is on!

Sounds like a great night. What did you make of Danny Mayor? The match reports don't make much mention; one decent 1st half cross & Bas headed wide.

First half he played well - he seems to have all the attributes of a proper winger, great ball control, doesn't mind running at people and, on the evidence of his first two games at least, seems to know how to cross a ball. He also worked hard defensively and put in a few good challenges. In comparison to the likes of Myrie-Williams, Mayor's decision making also seems a lot more refined and doesn't tend to run into trouble and knows when to play it short etc. He was much quieter second half but on the whole looked a better option than either Shuker or Sonko. Barnett was excellent on the other wing, and would probaly have been my man of the match but for Goodison. Shotton and Chorley also performed excellently against two of the best players in the league (Mattock/Fryatt). Jenno and Kay also put in a good shift, and Gornell was very impressive indeed - top class hold-up play. Only Bas dissapointed for me, to be honest. What a great result though!

To be fair to Bas though he set up Kay and won the penalty.

I was honestly pretty mad at Savage in that first half. Those two great chances he missed were quite shocking to be honest. But he did improve in the second half and was involved with the goals. Still drifted out wide a lot.

The energy of the young lads was superb. They never stopped an credit to them, they gave it their all. You could see Gornell tiring towards the end which is to be expected, but he never gave up.

We wouldn't see that type of enthausiasm from Shuker or Sonko. Which is one of the reasons we got Mayor on loan in the first place. Ronnie has finally realised he needs more from his players. This is crunch time now.

Defense were fantastic. Chorley, whilst still prone to the odd lapse, has been excellent in the last few weeks. Goodison his usual self, and the full backs were superb. Shotton looked as good as ever and is pretty good going forward. Taylor while not as dynamic surging forward, played a blinder in defense. One of his best games for some time and he made some crucial tackles.

You could see them all concentrating. Focused. It was good.
Again, disappointing crowd of just over 6000 which Boz predicted before the game. The only way to pull in supporters is by getting out of this league.

Makes for an exciting and slightly nervous finish but we are showing good fight and spirit. They need to keep this up right till the end. Away games at Oldham and Leeds coming up. Bigger tests than any..
