    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Rovers old boys

Makes sense to bring Jensen in. He'll have worked with more Keepers than most at the club so i'd gamble whoever does come in, will have worked with him before. Possibly someone whos had previous at Shrews.
Agree but would have made more sense to have at least one keeper to coach when Jensen arrived. He worked with Marosi at Shrewsbury amongst others.

A bit of reverse engineering, insomuch the scouting is part done already by bringing Jensen in, as he maybe able to recommend a couple and also rule out one or two we get offered.

Yes, I agree. I think, on this occasion, the Club has done the sensible thing (rather than the cheap one).

Genuine question like. Does anyone honestly think we can pull in anyone better than Marosi these days? I wouldn't be too against but doubt we would go any better given we have no clue the situation with McGee so that what may be stalling any news on Keepers.

I think we could do better Marosi Ross. Controversial, and after good scouting, it would have to be a well thought of loanee with potential and ambition who has already been exposed to the men's game. As journeymen go I suppose Marosi is ok. Bear in mind he is currently transfer listed by Vale, so I'm guessing we're looking elsewhere or we would have been in for him - unless any fee is a show stopper.

Love (on paper) the team Neil is assembling at Alty.
Alty are the new Oldham, who now sign old Rovers players.

Oldham used to sign ex-Rovers players but now the traffic is starting to come the other way - Conlon.

I agree that it's not straightforward. If we knew McGee was going to be unable to play again, then would want a first choice keeper who is stronger than Marosi. If Luke was going to be able to play again later this year, then Marko would suffice as stand-in for a few months.

Cant imagine Vale will be after much for Marosi. I agree with your recruitment criteria, but suspect there aren't many young keepers around who tick those boxes and their clubs would be willing to loan to Rovers.

Yep Vale won't want much for Marosi and if that the case, I would assume we're looking elsewhere.
There probably isn't too many keepers of that ilk Boz, but that criteria would be preferable to me. Accy (with the help of Les Parry) struck lucky with Radek Vitek 23/24 , who's just had a full season with Bristol City and done well. They had Ollie Wright from Southampton last season who I don't think missed a game - I'm sure he'll play at a much higher level soon. Walsall got Myles Roberts (played 40 + games) from Watford. I know there are some young duffers out there who'll only play non-league at best.. Accy have just got a young lad from Norwich for this season. They reckon they've done their research, but we'll have to wait and see.
Don't get me wrong, a good steady reliable journeyman will do me, but if we are to aim for better, a loanee is about the only option.....with risks I know.

I agree with you in principle, Higgy. The problem we need to avoid is too many loanees, meaning not all can be picked at once. I'd keep the number low to allow for additions for injury cover later in the season. We also need to tie them down for at least half a season to avoid urgent recalls which would disrupt our plans.

Good points bbtc. I just think in the odd key position the only way to get a player who can lift and elevate the team beyond that of your standard L2 recruits is either via a well scouted loanee or spending big bucks on the better players in our league. You're right we shouldn't compromise ourselves with too many loanees just for the sake of it. And there is a risk of getting a dud loanee as we know to well.

You would hope we have learnt our lessons from previous seasons.....

You would hope that last season's loanee situation was a screw-up driven post January by desperation. You would have hoped we would have learned our lessons. I have no issue with a number of well thought out loan players being included in the squad from the start of the season. Some great examples of this have been posted above and we have many good examples in our recent history.

It feels like we are repeating the errors of last season, poor preparation with few friendlies only one of which is open, threadbare squad and the goalkeeper issues even worse. Does Palios want to get us relegated?! Unless things are better behind the scenes than the public perception, reckon Clarke will be getting concerned too.

The keeper situation was a joke last season and I have concerns nothing will change for this season. Apparently we have a couple of youngsters on trial but we really need an experienced keeper as well with Mcgee not being available for a while

Until real change happens, the same mistakes will keep being made.

Due to us following that downward curve for years now our projected finish will be below 21st. Anything above that will actually be a step forward. Crazy..
