I would love:
1.Harvey
2.Coppell or
3.Graham Taylor
All long shots i know!!!

More realistic view is prob Ray Mathias

I would love it if Les & Shaun did well & got it full time, but the mess we are in properly req someone with more experience!!

Graham Taylor? Do I not like that!

Lost touch with the game and plays boring football. Agree with Stevie Coppell as the top choice and I dont think he's too unrealistic. What about Peter Reid or Paul Jewell? Local lads with bags of experience and have both operated in the lower echelons of english football.

Wouldn't like to see Mathias back, didn't really do a lot last time did he?

Cant see Graham Taylor coming - has a nice job working for BBC as a pundit on five live. Coppell having been at reading for so long is presumably settled there. I dont really want Mathias (unless he brings Ince with him!)

Names that spring to mind realisically are Paul Jewell, Iain Dowie (did well at Oldham a whlie ago) - although both of these now work for Sky. Pity Moore and Jimmy Harvey are unavailable. I've always liked Steve Cotterill.
We need someone though with experience who knows the league (but not Joe Royle!)

In saying that...sounds like Les is excited by it all so if it goes well...who knows...

Firstly great news about Barnes and Macateer going! Now my obvious chocie would be Paul Jewell, however like others have stated he's a pundit now, probably happy doing that!

I really wouldnt want Martin Allen, He's a prat/showman just stands and shouts makes himself look silly!

I've got a feeling Mathias will get it, - There are some rather good managers about though!

Peter Taylor left Wycombe today too Coincidence?

Just the obvious old dead wood mentioned here !
Can,t anybody come up with some one that could/has to be ,good at what they do ?
To John barns and Jason mac ,thanks for all your efforts which i know you both tried so hard and you guys must be feeling so frustrated now!

I have said on here before that being a manager here is such a specialist job one that requires many years of experience ,experience that is very hard to come by also!
To jb i would say you started back in management too high up the ladder at this time ,maybe you should have started coaching first some where !
To jason i think you will be a good coach one day ?

PS
please please don,t bring back mr f--- nice guy ray mathias !

As I said elsewhere, there are no stand-out options, a lot of people who we'd like to come clearly won't. Of those available, Cotterill has a reputation for long-ball and his career didn't take off after Cheltenham. I'm unsure about Mathias. At this stage, let's see how the caretakers cope. Perhaps we'll be pleasantly surprised.

How about David 'Ned' Kelly - we did great when he was assisting Ray Mathais and then not so good when he left.

Many suggestions here are completely unrealistic.

Ideally, I think we'd all like to appoint a manager with both experience and some prior affiliation to the club. For me, the only realistic options that fall into that bracket are Mathias and Aldo. I expect the former to be appointed, and won't be disappointed if he is, but I have my fingers tightly crossed that Aldo doesn't fancy another go at taking us down, hang succeeded in doing so previously. Mike Newell has been poor at Grimsby, David Kelly could be worth a go.

In terms of appointing total outsiders...I'd love to see us appoint someone like Jimmy Calderwood or Steve Cotterill, but would be surprised if we could attract either. Simon Davey seems to be a fairly talented young manager with a point to prove and could be interested after his recent sacking at Barnsley. Would Aldershot manager Garry Waddock risk the security of his current job by stepping up to manage us?

Gary McAllister could be an option, he's turned down a few high profile jobs cos he wants to manage again. He has Managed at this level and was a match away from promotion... Possibility maybe????

Sonkorly, why don't you take a leaf out of the 'Cowsheds' team and arrange to meet Peter Johnson to relay your views and knowledge direct?

Let's rule Aldo out. Management nearly ruined him and his family. Steve Coppell pls :)

We could send BootleRover.

Dan, agree that Mcallister would be nice, but surely if he wanted to return to management then why would he have let better oppertunities pass him by and then take us on? Ian, I highly doubt Coppell would come here, sadly.

Just looking at next manager prices on VC. Mathias, Mcallister and Brabin are joint favs @ 8/1. Didn't think of Brabin, would be well pleased if we appointed him. Promisingly, my earlier tip, Simon Davey, is 9/1. Stephen Frail is 25/1, LOL.

This is never really a solid market to bet on, but if anyone is going to have a punt then look no further than Mathias IMO.

Coppell is highly unlikely due to living down south. Aldo one of those hard to rate as a manager, but unquestionably a good motivator

Laurie Sanchez, the manager of Wycombe, the only game we won under John Mcmahon's stewardship. Not with you there SCoops, but Gary Brabin would be an interesting punt.

Sorry was meant to say that Gary McAllister has turned down high profile assistant manager jobs with Scotland and Portsmouth cause he wants to Manage again. That's who I think will get the job, although I would like to Simon Davey get it.
