    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

League Two Gillingham (2) v Rovers (1)

I’m completely perplexed by pulling and holding by the defending team in the penalty area not being a foul.

Shame about the defending though, given that there have been improvements in midfield, so there are positives.

Very frustrating. All the passing it around with no end product and then they get a corner and score.

Very unlucky to lose that. A dramatically improved performance and some really excellent football, particularly in the second half which we dominated. Keep playing like that and we will be fine.

The youngsters gave us skill, energy and spirit. Obiero in particular was brilliant, a really exciting attacking midfielder.

On the newcomers. Keeper was solid and made a couple of decent saves. Plant a little shaky defensively at times, but much more willing to take on the full back than Norman and with better delivery. Warrington was quality on the ball. Always available and always looking to play forward. Obiero simply brilliant, wonderful pace and dribbling. Dickov looks a little raw.

Thanks RLC. I had high hopes for Obiero given the Orient fans praises and we’ve been crying out for more pace and energy so it all sounds positive

The negative is we have again given away two poor goals from corners, albeit the first was a mile offside.

As Sparky says, we simply have to get three points against Crawley. If we repeat today's performance with the ball I think we will.

if we are conceding from stuff like this with Crosby being a defender as a player what do they do in training, i am glad the new players gave us a lift we need a result now , the players confidence must be shot

Given so many strangers in the side, playing away against à team above us, I’m not feeling too despondent.

Yes, Harrogate won and Newport drew but the eight teams above them (us and our rivals) lost. So we are really no worse off than before today. However, the team are getting to know each other and we have some kinder looking fixtures ahead.

Let’s face it. Even RLC is sounding cheerful, so things can’t be that bad. ;)

Yet another defeat and there is a lot of pressure on us to win next week and given our current form/Jones form in far from confident we will win. We are relying big time on other teams dropping points as we are incapable of winning

Crawley, Newport and Shrewsbury all play in midweek, we could do with them all getting beat

Other than the odd result it does seem that the top third of the division is heard above the rest, particularly the bottom third.
We have just finished a run of games against clubs above us. Therefore, we have to pick up points from those clubs below, who we have to meet..... But, only three wins, a long time ago, at home, coinciding with our poor form over the last dozen or so games, where do we go to get the necessary points to be safer from being dragged down again?

Plenty of upsides in another competitive defeat. Definitely grew in the second half as Patrick woke up and the Kenyan started to nail his left mid role.
Ironic the first time we play a def mid with support either side, it is the new boy who benefits. Warrington is loads younger so all good but it was the lack structure that harmed us.
Keeper went AWOL for the second and am sure the first was offside.
Suffered when ironside went off as we still sent balls to him when no one can hold it up. Guy on Comms is a joke, you don't lose the challenge when the defender heads it out you gain 40 yards. Whits will really benefit playing off Joe and always looks dangerous.
Patrick did nothing first half but their lad never left his own half, he makes a difference just being out there.
Plant spooned up a couple of bloomers but looks about of a winger and has a dribble in him.
Not a bad day given some obvious communication issues.
Been a long wait but 532 looks functional

I am confident that we will create chances and score goals in the weeks ahead with the players we have brought in. The football in midfield today was the best we have played all season, and the presence of Warrington and Obiero brought out the best in Finley and Whitaker. Some of the one-touch interplay between that quartet was fantastic. Patrick also looked sharp, and even Smith and Brough were reluctant to just hack the ball long.

However, our defending simply has to improve if we are to get results, albeit we did not concede a goal in open play today for the first time in a while. I am hopeful that with greater creativity in the side we will score the opening goal more often, and we now have the midfield players to look after the ball and take control of the game once we go ahead, rather than either ending up in an end-to-end basketball match, or sitting too deep, as has generally been the case this season. We will find out in the next few weeks.

Not sure when it counts as open play. But the first came after it was cleared to the edge of the box, Patrick lethargically failed to challenge. The header cleared out static line but found a static striker in an offside position, there weren't moving parts here he was offside before and after the header.
Unlike our two full time keepers this one just went missing as a ball travelled in his goal mouth. Hands always win in that zone we didn't use them.
We may well have no keepers by summer when we will be able to attract a costly proven EFL keeper, but whoever sits on the bench will be either 45 if a false two who will never play many league games. We are not a club who can spend decent money on a player we hope it to use.
