There is an interesting article on the BBC news website about football clubs and their relationship with gambling. In particular, TRFC is mentioned as making a stance against sponsorship for any sort of gambling. Mark Palios is quoted. We may be languishing in the bottom half of the fourth tier of the EFL, but this is one league where we are the leaders.

Gambling is yet another crusade to smash an egg with a hammer. Same with drinking, most pubs are very middle of the road without trouble with people enjoying the odd pint. Most gamblers do so modestly on a day out or some truly daft footie accies.
Problems come from minorities doing to excess. Attacking the majority is not a valid tactic. Just like most road campaigns are aimed at drunk drivers at Xmas, we ignore bad drivers and drunk drivers at other times of the year.
Bookies are very good at identifying profitable accounts they shut them down prompto. They could be obliged to limit ever losing ones. Alternatively the state could outlaw all cash gambling and limit it to debit cards where balances are in the black, remember many losses are really money laundering as 15% av loss is a decent scheme to get it legit. Credit gambling is easily legislated away.
Meanwhile the easy option is to be seen to do something with a campaign.

I've had problems with gambling down the years and it is not a nice or easy thing to get away from. Unfortunately money talks and profit trumps over welfare for most clubs. Really refreshing to see MP taking a stand against it.
