Dawes sacked

As usual, I expect people will only hear the bits they want to hear from this, but it’s at least refreshing to hear an interviewer asking the more pertinent questions:

I assume the full interview is, or will be, available.

Good to see him back talking about the current issues we face. I'm still looking toward the Jan window as we need to strengthen in certain areas.

While the questions are more searching, Mark’s answers are near identical to those given in the recent podcast.
I thought the same boz. He rolled out the same phrases about failed managers and how Nigel is experienced and positive etc. Plus how he was a pro etc etc.

The proof will be in the results and Nigel’s haven’t been great so far….lets hope that changes this weekend

Indeed. He‘d gain a lot more respect by just holding his hand up and simply saying he got that one wrong. But the way it came out having Nigel there was that he almost expected it
He’d gain no more respect from many of this club’s followers.

Don’t overlook the legal aspect here. Under any reasonably drawn up settlement agreement, he’d almost certainly cost the club money by saying anything that could be deemed derogatory towards Dawes. Especially in public. And, be in no doubt, telling the world it was a mistake to appoint him as manager most definitely would fall under such clauses.

He sacked the guy after just a few months. That tells us everything.

Still could not bring himself to admit that appointing Dawes was a mistake. A bit of humility goes a long way sometimes.
I have no problem with making mistakes.
But the decision making process that has got us into this situation.
Semantics, I know, but the list is very long!

He wouldn’t have needed to say anything personal or derogatory. Just that he himself got the appointment wrong. Perhaps not necessary to some of the SWA but his stock isn’t high among most fans so he should be trying to get a few onside.

Unless he is selling up of course in which case he may not be that bothered what people think

So you keep saying, but whatever’s on your list still seems to be a secret!

Incidentally, if it turns out we have indeed finally become investible to good new owners, will you be applauding the decisions that got us to that place?

Be in no doubt, MP telling the world it was a mistake to appoint Dawes as manager most definitely would fall foul of your typical non-derogatory clauses.

It is no secret that I don't believe that the owners are doing a good job!
And I don't believe that new owners whenever it happens, would make so many adverse decisions, in my open and honest opinion. And if we go down, anytime soon, I would hate that. Just as I hate getting beat as much as this season. And the club has NDA's in every contract.

As I said, whatever’s on your list of bad decisions, or the decision making process, seems to be a secret. Still! ;). And you ducked my question too. But, whatever..

Although new owners will likely bring new optimism, without at least knowing who they are and what their plans are, you clearly can’t comment on how good or bad their decision making is likely to be relative to that of the Paliosi.

Frankly this comes across as quite deluded. The notion that anyone has any idea what completely unknown owners would do is fanciful at best. Bar the Indonesians the whole idea is quite far fetched, and in their case I guess Palios would restrict the deal like PJ did to him.
Let's deal with facts our club needs north of £6 million to even get close to a take over and on all known form buyers then recover their money ( it never actually goes in), by raising loans against the club's assets. Which at £19 million mean they could probably raise £10 million with the balance to be used to boost playing spending (short term hoorahs from gullible fans) and siphoned off in management fees.
Glazers have pulled this off without any real damage, lower down clubs tend to up being re-started though.
NDA's are something you sign when you agree to terminate a contract not start one. Employees are expected not to act against their employers' interests but that is a common situation across the economy.
I am 99% certain anything that follows Palios that is unconnected with him, will be disadvantageous to the club. I believe there have been serial footballing errors recently but those are the tip of the iceberg when you consider the perils fans face with owners.

I share DBs caution about potential new owners. Have to hope that the Palioi won’t sell us down the river if a change of ownership goes through. Not all new owners are bad of course, you have relatively recent takeovers at Port Vale and Stockport for example which have turned out well.

Mark Palios reputation seems important to him. Some of the things he promised and delivered in the early period following taking over like good communication with the fans seem sadly lacking now. I’m unsure that acknowledging he’d made a mistake appointing Dawes amounts to a derogatory assertion given the fact of his dismissal amounts to the same thing.

Interesting examples there and you raise the issue of how fans change their long term views purely on the knee jerk of results.
Vale I know nothing little of, and of course with all clubs eras cannot be defined until after the event. I note the old company is being kept dormant with a £1 in it, you would have to suspect some shenanigans are in mind if things go sunny side down?
Stockport commendably are following the Palios method, all investment has been in cash and is credited only with equity. This a gold plated system that fans should long for. They actually failed to replicate our double promotion but look well set to achieve that this time. Critically our equivalent season which I am convinced the winter signings would have secured safety, ended in an historic non-footballing relegation and the damaged situation we remain in. Earlier the effects of Norwood going and only Morris looking up to div 1 standard was sobering
Palios will not sell us down the river however much abuse he gets. We do industrialise the unintelligent fan feedback and some. Demands that he sell up on twitter are as comical, moronic as they are depressing. It is like the manager of Asda screaming at his fish counter staff to sell more without noticing customers have ceased to even go near the counter.
My footballing view is always looking ahead, ie how many would cut it in the division above. The answer among proven contracted players, two, which sums up our lower table status but not necessarily our current dire position which I believe is false.
PS Long ago King was put out of his misery after relegation. I suspected then that seeing his poundshop table topping team dismantled and gravity reducing his team by thirty league places, a part of him was damaged. I now suspect Mellon getting his experienced Scouse backbone in Div 1 and having the perception of time to build a team to go up the league only to see it artificially destroyed, has had a similar mental effect. His Dundee get out was a foregone decision all would have made, but I suspect the damage lingered after his return. King recovered but it took years maybe Mellon will but not with us or maybe............................

Just listening to NA interview. Bet Dennis is happy that Norris is our marquee singing of the summer great when he has missed a good chunk through injury and a 20 goal player can't get a game in his natural position
