We are eight games in. Most of us think it needs ten to gauge our level. The next two games are against teams five points ahead having played a game more, so will be a good test. If we can beat Cambridge at home and get a draw at Bromley, we are on the road to recovery. If we win neither, I will be thinking history is repeating itself with Crosby’s tenure reflecting Adkins’.
However, there are grounds for optimism. We are not goal shy any more. Believe it or not, in all games eleven different players have scored for us this season. Our goals per game is better than any team south of the playoffs. Yes, our defence is brittle but that’s easier to fix than improving our offence.
In the end, it will depend on whether Andy can keep the team’s morale up. It looks OK at the moment but we’ll need to start winning again soon. Our fixture list for the next month does not look daunting, so surely we can be in a better position by the end of October. There are a lot of poor teams in League Two this year, so I am hopeful.
