    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

25/26 season predictions

I'd take 61 points. We'll inevitably pick up some injuries as we already have.

Without McGee i think we're closer to bottom of mid-table to the top though.

Is that negative thinking or positive given the last 5 years of downward trajectory.

Think with the squad we have we should be around mid table
Yes, I agree and that would at least stop the rot from the last few years where we have finished lower than the season before.

I always thought mid table. To go from 20th to the play offs is a long shot and too much of a jump.

Need probably 10 games at least to judge things but it’s going to be interested how Crosby gets us out of this very mini slump. Last 3 games gone although we won one of them, performances haven’t been good enough

I was more optimistic a couple of weeks ago. The very disappointing performances and results of the last two games make me revise my thoughts from being play off contenders to mid table probably lower mid and that assumes Ironside fires and stays fit and Dennis recovers well from his injury. McGee injury is a concern as whilst personally I see Murphy as still very capable at this level can he do it week in and week out is my concern and if he can't frankly I have no idea if the young keeper is any good or not.
All that assumes of course no significant strengthening in January with new investment moneys.

That is the issue with the keepers.

With McGee out it’s one extreme or the other. A 44 year old veteran, or a kid who has never played a first team game in the EFL.

Murphy the obvious first choice but neither is really ideal.

A goalkeeper that is a free agent?
Emergency loan?
When Scott Davies was injured, the club brought in an experienced keeper whose name eludes me. Even tho Pilling was the back up keeper.

Murphy even for all his advanced years will be fine in goal for now (let's hope he doesn't get injured!). The problem is the recent onslaughts on goal which would be difficult for any keeper. He made some good saves on Saturday and couldn't do much about the three that went past him.

He will still find it difficult at his age to train and be match ready for a number of months. A couple of games would be OK, but a longer period might be problematic.

After our start to the season I was thinking my 17th that I predicted was too low and we would comfortably finish comfortably in the top half, then came the defeat against Notts County and the manner of it knocked my confidence, then we signed Ironside and my hopes jumped again with me thinking we could possibly squeeze into the top7 then the shambles against Salford had me fearing the worse and thinking 17th was not a bad prediction, now on further reflection I think we will finish higher than 17th but how much higher than 17th I could not guess. The joy of being a Tranmere fan.

Totally convinced me to put a quid on us finishing 17th! Thank you, sir.

All depends on Ironside if he doesn't play much we maybe doomed but the more he plays the more towards mid-table we will be. He maybe exactly what we need but we have absolutely nothing to replace him when injured. A box to bow Hendry replacement in Jan would also made a big difference. The rest of the squad might be adequate.

We are eight games in. Most of us think it needs ten to gauge our level. The next two games are against teams five points ahead having played a game more, so will be a good test. If we can beat Cambridge at home and get a draw at Bromley, we are on the road to recovery. If we win neither, I will be thinking history is repeating itself with Crosby’s tenure reflecting Adkins’.

However, there are grounds for optimism. We are not goal shy any more. Believe it or not, in all games eleven different players have scored for us this season. Our goals per game is better than any team south of the playoffs. Yes, our defence is brittle but that’s easier to fix than improving our offence.

In the end, it will depend on whether Andy can keep the team’s morale up. It looks OK at the moment but we’ll need to start winning again soon. Our fixture list for the next month does not look daunting, so surely we can be in a better position by the end of October. There are a lot of poor teams in League Two this year, so I am hopeful.

Time to resurrect this thread, I think. How are we feeling? It seems forecasts change every game.

We have seven games left - three against high-flying MK Dons, Chesterfield and Grimsby, three against “safe” Colchester, Cheltenham and Shrewsbury and one at home against rivals Bristol Rovers.

Who knows how we will do, but it’s interesting to note that when we played the reverse fixtures earlier in the season we won four, drew three and of course lost none! I doubt we’ll hit that sort of form but after our latest display we should be able to conjure up the necessary points to survive.

Uneasy. I thought Wild would be a safe pair of hands and get us the needed points relatively quickly, but the shambolic selection and performance v Harrogate has changed all that. While Swindon was more like it, we didn’t take anything from the game and with Cheltenham being put back, thinking we probably need to win at least one of the Easter games. Those below us cannot continue dropping points. If we’re not safe by the final two; a trip to Milton Keynes and home to Grimsby, then NL again is a distinct possibility. Hopefully we can turn things around.

My gut feeling is we will probably be OK due to the teams below us. It is quite incredible how we are not in the bottom two after the worst run I can remember in my time watching Rovers.

Wild also had them playing on Saturday so I’m hoping we can pick up points here and there to keep us away from the drop.

The weekend will be interesting without a game.

It's going to be very nerve wracking as although we played better on Saturday we again lost. As much as I hope we stay up i fear we will go down with Barrow.
