Personally, I think changing the armband mid-season is a snub to the player relinquishing it unless, of course, he wants to. I'm sure it would have had a more detrimental impact on Hemmings than a positive one on Davies. The time for changing your skipper is at the start of the season. I would be amazed if Davies didn't view it that way.
Not sure I agree. Hemmings has been woefully out of form with the pressure of scoring goals and I thought taking the arm band off him may relieve some pressure. He’s had mental health issues so it may have helped but like you say it could upset him and go the other way…

Either way my own view is that a captain should be a centre back or mid as they can see everything in front of them. Not a striker or a keeper for that matter.

My judgement would be:

Cogley - offer the best deal we can, but he will leave anyway
Davies - 2 year deal
Merrie - 1 year deal
Mumbongo - release
Burton - release
Nolan - release
Jameson - release
Hewelt - release
Murphy - will surely have to stick to coaching next season, which means two new keepers are required

I have not seen enough of the untried youngsters to make a judgement.

Would suspect Merrie would need a 2 year deal to consider staying.
Agree with the rest save that Hewelt may be worth retaining as a squad keeper. See what happens as seems he’s likely to play the rest of the season.

I’m hoping not re hawkes. He knows he has another year but I suspect his agent may have hinted clubs are interested.

Surely it’s worth us offering him a new deal now? Same goes for Bristow?

I thought we had option on one of them, Bristow maybe, to extend for a third year when the time comes, but not sure how accurate that report was.

Palios’ model relies on generating a steady stream of transfer fees so I’d expect us to cash in on at least one of them this summer, if the money’s right.

We do have an option on Bristow but fairly sure we don't with Hawkes. I expect both will be sold.

Suggestion that Lincoln Burton and Port Vale interested in Cogley.

Not a shock as all league one clubs and I doubt any championship clubs would be seriously after him.
That said He’s a good age, available on a free, rarely injured and a modern day fullback. He’ll have lots of offers

Thanks Sparky.

I do agree with MP to an extent. If you look at the stats, most of the time we do have fewer shots than the opposition but for me, the important stat is SOT. We struggle with that one! We need a poacher.

MP seems very enthausiastic with the new management team. Let's hope it delivers.

From the comments by Ian Dawes since MM left and MP again in the interview with the BBC the budget was healthy enough this past year and will be again next year. It clearly won't be at Wrexham's level but then how big was Stevenage's budget this past season and they did ok!

Issue was clearly an unbalanced squad - MP was admitting to that in the interview - whose fault it was he was less clear on! Also in my view the style of play under MM though of course others I know will disagree... though clearly MP rightly or wrongly also thought so as interestingly from the interview MP was very matter of fact that MM was never going to get a new contract from a long way out. He again mentioned turning down £500k to keep Cogley etc. to go for promotion but that by end February performances had tailed off and from then on it seems clear the die was already cast with MM if not even before that....

As to recruitment mentioned twice that in recent seasons 30% of our budget was wasted - again didn't say who was to blame however but did confirm that Adkins would be involved in recruitment negotiations but didn't say 100% that he will control transfers so does that mean Beck going to be still involved? That was my take sadly!
