    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Rovers old boys

If Micky gets successive promotions as he did with us that is some going. Can’t be many managers who have done it twice.

You don’t know what you got till it’s gone….:-(
It is likely he will at least get them in the play offs, and with a not particularly great budget or squad. Similar to us in 2019.

There can't be another manager operating in Leagues One and Two with a record to compare to his. Challinor probably the closest comparison, but far better backed at Stockport.

They were calling for his head after he joined seemingly forgetting he had inherited a terrible squad. I didn't take long for him to sort that and now he's flying.

Micky is undoubtedly one of the best ever managers in League Two and the National League. His record speaks for itself.

He hasn’t proved himself yet at League One level, but never really had the chance. Were it not for the pandemic, I do believe we would have stayed in League One.

Fans take time to earn to him as he never has an immediate impact. It can take up to a year for him to build a team and get it playing his way. But once the team get going, they are difficult to beat.

Probably MP’s biggest mistake was insisting on “goals, goals, goals”. That is not Micky’s style and he was not give the resources or the time to build that sort of team. Instead, money was wasted on a four man development squad, which were all given free transfers. If Micky had been given proper backing (strategic and financial), who knows where we would be. Certainly not where we are now.

Mellon's impact here in the autumn of 2016 was immediate, and he also had an instant rapport with the supporters.

He had no prior relationship with Oldham and inherited a poorer squad than the one he had here in his first spell, so it was always going to take him slightly longer to get them going.

I think the Oldham goalie has had 10 clean sheets this season! Equaled the Club record with games to go!

Goals, Goals, Goals was something Palios felt he had to pursue after a substantial campaign by fans. As we know some fans will squeeze a new campaign out of anything. Brabin had clearly stabilised the ship, recruited players who dominated long after he left and was himself grinding performances out. mellon was lower in the table a year after Brabin left which of course was when the future Oldham sidekick left himself.
In the interests of balance a known Oldham fan was threatening other known match goers who wouldn't agree with him on socials that Oldham wouldn't win again and get relegated just weeks ago.
Maybe fail this year but next!

Brabin brought in some of the top NL players and should have done better with them. He might have bought himself more time by engaging with the fan base, having joined during the Palioi's honeymoon period. It never felt like he 'got' Rovers and the SWA in the same way Micky did.

It will be interesting to see how far Micky goes with Oldham and a chairman who backs him and doesn't keep moving the goalposts

We suffered from a delusion that barely a squad could bounce back immediately. Hopefully we won't be rehearsing that debate soon, as it is far worse now. The goal posts were financial constraints, even was thus. History will show the COVID ppg was an epoch changing event.

Neil Danns' Southport one up at half time in their Trophy semi final against Southend.

Will Aimson og leaves Wigan 2 down at Reading

Marine subbed off Drysdale in the 92nd minute and Wealdstone scored the winner a minute later. I don’t know if the two are related. But the match winner is related to one of our players, Zech Obiero’s brother Micah.

They were actually calling for his head last season too!

Connah’s Quay Nomads can announce that 2024/25 JD Cymru Premier Player of the Season Rhys Hughes will complete a transfer to The New Saints at the end of the season.
This epitomises why we don't have a youth system, rightly so and that is from someone who has travelled the region country even watching us.
He was 21 at Everton never played. Concurrently our last crop of five got to 20 and are now even lower than Rhys.
Everton have an army at u 21 including others out on loan. Three at our level incl Tamen, four in div 1, two keepers in local non-league, one at Ayr and two abroad.
If you weren't competing in the first team squad at 19 you were done for. There is literally an army of players we couldnt attract and wouldn't be any use to us if we could.
