Another completely unacceptable performance, and a team that on this evidence is heading for a relegation scrap, not a promotion challenge.
I thought in the first five minutes we did actually show more agression and press higher up the pitch than in previous games. However, a new problem emerged in the form of an enormous gulf between defence and midfield, which Crawley exploited to cut us open at will in the first twenty minutes. We could have been more than three goals down at half time and the lack of basic organisation in the side is unbelievable. The gaps between the different compartments of the team are too big, there are no relationships between the players, and there seems to be a collective confusion regarding what the game plan actually is (if any).
In the second half we were slightly better going forward and created a few half chances, but again no shots on target. However, we still looked vulnerable defensively and were cut open far too easily on occasions.
Individually, I thought Smith worked hard up front and I would like to see what he could do alongside Vaughan if he was properly directed; it was good to see CBT back on the pitch.
However, individual players are not the issue. There were signs of a few senior members of the squad losing their rag towards the end, which is unsurprising.
