Just watched the replay, it was never a pen! The challenge was about three feet outside the box. Danny never even goes in the box so how can it be inside?

No harm in detesting the penalty but it's a moot point really.

But suppose the referee had got the penalty decision right and awarded a free-kick instead. Walsall would have been less likely to score from that and then what? It could have changed the outcome of the game.

The point is that we were very poor and never threatened, not that we were undone by a dodgy pen.

What Boz said! Would have taken a 0-0.

What better chance would we have had if we'd had to face a free-kick on the edge of the area?

But if you are going to play the what if game, what if JLAAs handball against oldham had been spotted, we wouldnt have got the 3 points there....

Gray made an accurate statement of fact that the penalty decision was wrong; the challenge which led to it being awarded was clearly outside the area.

DIWs point was that Rovers were very poor and never threatened. I'm sure on reflection, he can remember some games where very poor sides sneak away with a point or even all three. At the time of the award, the score was still 0-0, so surely something worthy of comment in a post-match discussion?

It could have changed the outcome of the game.

BBTC experience shows that a side is more likely to score in a 1 v 1 penalty situation than a free-kick defended with a wall and others inside the area. That's even taking account of Tranmere's weakness dealing with set-pieces.

WildRover, quite a few posters conceded that we were lucky getting away with the JLAA handball and we've probably had the rub of the green on other occasions too. That shouldn't mean that there should be an embargo on discussing situations where decisions wrongly go against us.

Wildrover has a point. Swings and roundabouts. You can be debating what ifs till the cows come home. I think the point is they just weren't that good.
