    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Rovers 3-4 Colchester

Sherriff had a couple of games in central defence for us during his first season and was rubbish.

The Curran/Greenacre situation is difficult, personally think a 3 with both of them and Savage should be tried. However I don't understand RTIDs constant downer on Greenacre, given his good scoring history with the club.

SonkORLY, under what circumstances did you play against Mike Jones? He looked decent for the reserves but never got a fair crack of the whip under Ronnie. Time will tell how good he is, but off to a decent start with Bury.

apparently sheriff is being used as a defensive midfielder by the shrews - if they can manage to teach him some positional discipline he might be alright there, but i never really rated him in any position at tranmere.

with curran and greenacre together we'd certainly be more likley to convert sonkos share of missed oppertunities. its unlikley to happen though, as even when ronnie plays 4-3-3, he likes to do so with width, so i think he'd be more likley to field something along the lines of sonko/savage/shuker than curran/savage/greenacre...i'd like to see him drop his obsession with wingers whatever formation we play, at least until sonko and shuker find some sort of form.

i played against mike jones when he was in tranmere's under 18s/19s...i had a little go in the chester youth team a few years ago...not that this is in anyway a means of judging his ability (or my lack of!)

by the end of last season i think he was at the age where, were he good enough, he'd have been in the first team, and i've never been blown away by his performances when i've seen him play, either in the full team or the reserves. charlie barnett already looks to be twice the creative force mike jones ever was, and he's a year or two younger to boot 8)

It's not a constant downer, he used to be my favourite player (His name is on the back of my last home strip) it's just that he's not as good as he was, I think it's age myself. The chances he misses these days he would have buried a few seasons ago.

I would prefer to see players such as Curran and Gornell playing, who are on their way to reachng their peak rather than someone who's just gone over it.

Your experience certainly gives you a different angle on things to the likes of me! Don't disagree about Barnett, he looked good in pre-season, but didn't grab his opportunity when given a start at Swindon. On what I've seen so far, he isn't a wide player in the Jones mould

While Greenacre isn't in the form of a couple of seasons ago, he's still a decent player at this level. There's no reason he can' t do an Aldo and feature on scoresheets for a few more seasons yet. Curran is improving vastly, though some way to go til he peaks and unlucky to have lost his place. Gornell has potential, but no first team appearance, so too early to judge.
