A tough afternoon but all that mattered was being above that dotted line at 5pm, and we were.

Palios has promised an in depth review (haven’t we heard that before), but let’s enjoy the relief for now

1-1 ....should have had a quid on it. :)
Anyway safe at last and a chance to rebuild. Big clear out upcoming. I hope Negru gets signed as he has promised and can be a good utility player if we sign as good or better defenders.
Rebuilding won't be easy, but essential for survival that we get a lot more right than wrong this time round.

Yep prefer him to tamen. Doubt any loanees will do much but clubs just hoard them.
Personally prefer to avoid loans in the first instance and internationals period, all a recipe for disruption before you start

The likes ofLiverpool have so many young players who will never make it in the PL. Literally an academy for the game elsewhere. Trouble is they have been cosseted and some struggle with the reality elsewhere. Jack Dunn springs to mind candle others.

I am another glad that is over. It was not until the 85th minute of the last game of the season, that I felt we were safe from relegation to the National league, even then it was not of our own makings, it was from another game, Barnet going 2-1 up against Harrogate. While I knew we were no world beaters and were not good enough for promotion, I still think the team under performed and should have finished higher from our position before Christmas to only guarantee our survival in the last five minutes of the last game, showed what a shambles we became in the second half of the season. Mistakes were made and I hope lessons learned. We can all go away rest and recuperate, watch the world cup and get ready to go through hopefully a better season next year, with hopefully new owners, a better and stronger squad and not having to spend the last afternoon of the season looking at other scores. Have a good summer lads and remember their are people worse off than ourselves, while we are cursing and complaining about England in the World Cup think of poor bigmart he will be supporting Scotland. Thanks for all the time and energy you put into the running of the site Ian, you are a legend.

I think he would need to ask Crosby to contribute. I also think he needs to listen to Wild who has had an ‘outsider’ view. And not to ignore any criticism of set up as I feel he did with Hill. Part of me wishes he had kept Hill on but water under the bridge.

I didn't even compare him to Tamen. Albeit I'm not a massive fan of him. I said Negru had some promise and as long as we sign as good, but hopefully better, he'd be a good utility player (he has played in midfield) .....he will have to improve, and if he received some decent coaching he might challenge the defenders in the first eleven - if recruitment improves on this season. If it doesn't (unthinkable) anyone with moderate ability will be near first choice.
As for loanees, many of the successful teams in our division have used the system exceptionally well. If it's done properly and diligently you can deffo improve the squad. Otherwise all clubs are doing is trying to get the best journeymen available.

I never claimed you did. How do you know loans have worked so well, it would be a huge task to evaluate that army at each club? For every JJ there is a Dickov and JJ wasn't that good overall
Coaches at first team level work on team plans and positions more than individual development. As kingy used to say, by the time they get to me they shouldn't need coaching. Common misperception

Grimsby have issued a statement saying they have formally written to the club to raise serious concerns regarding player and supported safety and stewarding and asked the club to review their matchday safety operations

They have a point, but it's difficult to stop. There was a pitch invasion by Cambridge fans at Crewe while a spectator was receiving CPR for example.

From a family point of view it can’t have been nice for any young Grimsby fans seeing all of the Tranmere teens dressed in black running towards their end. However we’re no different from most clubs in this day and age, as sad as it is.

The only way to stop it is to have a lot more police (which will cost money), and have severe punishments like hefty fines and bans. I’m sure parents of these veral kids wouldn’t be impressed if they got a fine through the post.

i got there about 1.50pm and right at the back of the kop looked to be about 100 fans (kids) with 10 mins to go they all started to make their way down to the front so we knew what would happen. don,t know how to stop it

It's not often we get five-figure gates or have anything to celebrate, so the opportunity for this type of incident is rare.
However, I hope the club notes this so that it can prepare better in the future.

When do we think the next 10,000 gate will happen? ;)

It was our biggest gate for a home league fixture for twenty years, excluding free entry matches.

As I have said many times, imagine if we were not utterly useless. The potential is significant.

Seventh highest average gate in the division this season, to witness four home victories, the joint worst performance in the club's history.

DB I will reply properly later as I am overun with grandkids atm. But in terms of the loans, there is evidence that it works if you do your homework.

My preference is for long term servants home grown or otherwise and then developed youngsters. Our club is based on this and maybe only exists because of it.
However the first seems out of vogue generally and at our level the latter totally nonviable.
Loans maybe a necessary evil when needs must, but as a general policy are a short term one at best. They will cause instability if it doesn't already exist.
