The fixture list is the property of the league and of the teams in the league. It's not your property and it is copyrighted, so you can't legally make money from it. That's the rules.

Yes it's not fair really on small, unofficial supporter websites, but it's perfectly fair to generate revenue for the smaller league clubs by making big international news agencies pay for the privilage. Think about the other side of the coin.

Mind you... each league team can designate, if it chooses to, one unofficial site that is permitted to publish the fixture list, in addition to the listing on their own official site. Tranmere Rovers has designated no unofficial site, as far as I'm aware.

Not £1000 but 1000's of pounds probably meaning well into double figures.

Ohh, this is a very touchy subject.
Click on this link http://www.bsad.org/0506/reports/fixtures_letter.html it makes a very interesting read..

Basically, there are three options:

1. Pay the license (£266 + VAT)
2. As NBDH rightly mentioned, we could apply for "Nominated Fanzine" status from Tranmere Rovers which would allow us to publish the fixtures.
3.Take no action and continue as is which is perfectly legal in its current form. You are allowed to show previous fixtures and scores, and also the next game preview.

Cheers Ian, that was very interesting reading.

Will you be applying for the nominated fanzine status?
