I was very sad to hear of his passing. He wasn’t the most naturally talented but through sheer hard work he rose from Scunthorpe United to win two European Cups and two Ballons d’Or.

I first heard of him when he knocked us out of the FA Cup in a second replay. Then I saw him in action in a preseason match at Prenton Park just after he signed for the Reds.

I loved his enthusiasm and his honesty. He did a lot for the clubs he played for. As a football fan, I’ll miss him. RIP, Kevin.

One of football's good guys and taken far too young.

One of my favourite memories from my younger days watching Rovers was our 3-2 victory at St James Park in spring 1992, shortly after he had taken over as Newcastle manager. We actually beat The Magpies three times that season, including a victory on penalties following the famous 6-6 draw in the Zenith Data Systems Cup.

The FA Cup game referenced above was a second replay at Goodison Park. Keegan credited that match with changing his life, as Liverpool scouts were in attendance and he was signed by Shankly not long afterwards.

Yes, very sad. I remember the excitement when he did a signing session at Noel Kelly's in Bromborough village while playing for Liverpool. At that time Keegan was probably more synonymous with football super-stardom in the UK then anybody has ever been. It was impossible to dislike the man. Who can forget him on Superstars, and the bike crash? Shame he didn't win the title as a manager with Newcastle. Legend.

Yep he was a top player and lovely human being.
Will be sadly missed, especially when contrasted agaist the shenanigans of Messi and his gang.
I loved just going into Noel Kelly's - even when I was spending. Lovely aura about the place. Got all my subutteo stuff there and tickets for a couple of big Rovers cup games in the sixties. Happy days.

Going off at a tangent, Higgy, where I live now is a football desert except that within walking distance is where Subbuteo was invented by Peter Adolph in 1946 and used to be made. There is a brown plaque on the building. They held the Subbuteo World Cup here in 2024. Like you, I had a set when I was a lad.
