    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Andy Crosby

I think Taylor could have a future in the game but needs regular game time. His best position is probably up front as he’s quick and a clever finisher. He’d need a target man alongside him to do the donkey work.

I’m just not sure he’ll get that chance with us
The crazy thing is we still don't know after 2 seasons. Logically we should say he isn't good enough and won't make it BUT Adkins clearly was useless and inept so we can exclude his thinking. Crosby I can sort of understand where he was coming from in his choices but still think he was wrong not to use Taylor more.

I have been impressed how Taylor despite wasting 2 seasons still seemed enthusiastic and keen to be involved. Many would have put a transfer request in by now and depending on what happens with the takeover that may still be the best option for him.
I would hope Crosby will start him Saturday alongside Dennis so we can at least see a cameo of him playing in his correct position.

It would be unwise for a kid who, for whatever reason, can’t get into a struggling L2 side and then couldn’t get a game when sent out on loan to non league to start demanding a transfer. At least unless he knows decent clubs are lining up to sign him. No idea if any clubs are interested.

It’ll be interesting to see how the next permanent manager - AC or whoever - views him and his career path, and if and how he chooses to deploy him. Whatever the circumstances have been so far, you’d think next season has to be his breakthrough season if he’s going to make it in the FL.

Next Saturday is a day I thought would never come. It’s a day when the result doesn’t matter and we can just enjoy ourselves. It’s not too important what position we finish (21st or 22nd).

However, I hope Andy takes the chance to reward some fringe players by giving them a run out. I’m thinking Taylor, Bradshaw, Hawkes and even Garrett, to see what they can do.

It gets me worried when andy goes on about clarity from the club obviously going on about the takeover budgets and all that as he says you only get a small amount of time on this planet and you want a club with ambition and who wants to go places. This rings alarms with me that things are not well at the club or am i reading it wrong

It is a time of great uncertainty at the club and Andy is probably affected the most. He won’t know if he is still wanted. Even if he is, he can’t do much planning as he won’t know his budget for a while, I expect. No matter what happens to him, I hope it all works out for him. He should be ok as he has a much stronger cv than he had two months ago.

If he is not with us next season who ever gets him certainly has an ambitious manager on their hands who quite clearly has and rightly big ambitions. Hope if its with is or another he goes and does an amazing job

He has certainly put himself in the shop window over the last dozen games. The players and supporters seem to engage with him and he saved us from the drop. It will be interesting to see what happens next..

I would definitely keep him if possible. He knows what is required at L2 level. I would hate any new owner, with only half knowledge, to appoint a celebrity big name who, in reality, does not have what it takes.

Reactions: Boz
I for one was aghast when Crosby was appointed when Atkins resigned and have been surprised by the upturn in form of the team. I now admit I was completely wrong and a big thank you to Andy Crosby for turning our season around and saving us from relegation to the National league.

I think part of the problem was that there was no noticeable difference on the pitch when Crosby joined to help Adkins. I’m just not sure how much input he had in the end or whatever he did put forward was ignored somewhat as the team selections and tactics didn’t change at all.

According to a source, I do believe it was once again pure speculation.
Crosby was brought in by Adkins to be there if things went tits up as they did.
Adkins wanted someone to be the continuing voice in the dressing room, a sort of minder and go between.
So the change would be seamless.
This was Adkins plan.
Palios wasn't interested in changing manager around that time.
And apparently wasn't to keen to let Adkins go.
Believing that the takeover would take of that issue.

Maybe the truth will be even more weirder!

Ok, so after the excellent 4-1 away win this afternoon, let's take a look at Crosbys record over the last 13 games.

W: 6
D: 5
L: 2

GF: 22
GA: 13

Pts: 23 out of a possible 39.

Not too shabby considering he took over a team that couldn't buy a win and looked one of the worst in the division.

Andy should be offered a one year contract with the option of a further year. Both Dawes and Adkins were good interims.

Your conclusion is to use the same measure which led to failure? Of all our recent managers apart from those who never worked as such again, only Moore and Mellon had any viable credibility in the industry after leaving us. Adkins joins Little and Adams as using TRFC to advance their retirements.
Dawes had a curious CV to even get on an EFL staff, his tenure as a full time EFL boss was quite a bizarre one. Not as bizarre as Parry granted, but he and the one who never got the hot seat Vaughan (but was close) ended up in a posts at senior Prem clubs albeit with zero input on who played in the first team.

Crosby is a typical new boss in this division now and typically he wouldn't last much more than a year, being shifted out as the fans believe he is a muppet. A truth that should be viewed as always with a backdrop of poor financial backing and a legacy of other people's signings.

Crosby or whoever would be a different prospect where they could retain whoever they wanted, ditch those contracted of no use and sign players well above our current level. That is what a proper takeover would look like, however many other types are available.

Yesterday was enjoyable, changed nothing especially over individuals but did our lot have a positive message sending them out with better intentions? Who knows, bjut one would hope Crosby and his team have had some form of clarity from the IOM?

If we don't offer Crosby something soon, there is a risk he will be picked up quickly by somebody else.

From his interview yesterday it sounds like he has struggled to find suitable employment since leaving Vale, but he will have plenty of suitors now following his performance at Prenton Park.

I doubt anyone could’ve done any better, and his impact was immediate too.

It helped that he had a squad that shouldn’t have been anywhere near the relegation places, and Hendry’s return was very timely too. But again, he seemed to get everyone on board immediately.

Big question is whether our prospective new owners fancy him over anyone they may have already lined up. Either way, hopefully things will move fairly quickly now the season’s finally over.

Anyway, thank goodness we didn’t turn to Coleman! After his undistinguished spell at Gills, which admittedly never felt like a good fit for either party, I see he’s now been appointed manager of Waterford over in Ireland.
