    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Adkins

The longest ever will they won't they is over sadly for Nigel who comes across as a really decent passionate man.

However he was proven he is now out of his depth in modern 2025 football management, things move on etc.

I just hope MP doesn't do anything silly like make Sam Finley player manager for the remainder of the season.

Well we all wanted it to work. Very positive and a seemingly likeable guy. An ex player and local lad, but his success at Southampton and Scunny was a long long time ago.

Yes he steadied the ship last season, but we all know a lot of that was down to a certain Rob Apter. This season has been awful in so many ways. Worst goal difference, losing 10 in a row on our travels, barely beating poor sides like Harrogate and Carlisle.

Poor recruitment like Finley, Davison and Bradshaw. Giving new contracts to the likes of Saunders. Bizarre substitutions late on in games. It just all added up to a toxic atmosphere and to avoid any chance of going down, a change had to be made. Not always guaranteed it’ll work, but sometimes new managers can get better results from the same players so let’s hope that happens.

If he was a genuinely decent man he would have agreed to go months ago, before he did potentially irreparable damage to the club.

The behaviour of Adkins and Palios throughout this whole episode has been an absolute disgrace. Palios's statement yesterday again failed to acknowledge the gravity of the situation we are in.

Actually, I don’t think the squad is that bad. Nigel was badly hit by long-term injuries, but his decision to leave proven goalscorers on the bench or to play them out of position was bizarre.

Sadly, despite a strong performance on Saturday, the team finally succumbed to the pressure last night.

The decision can only benefit everyone at the club, including Nigel, whose mental health must have been suffering.

All this nonsense about Adkins being a fan, if he truly cared for the club he would have gone before Christmas.

Maybe I’m too nice but I wonder if he genuinely thought despite our poor form that he could still keep us up. Deluded of course but it could be true.

Aided by the fact that given how long he got we can assume Palios never really held him to account. Even the statement basically blames injuries for our position.

Interesting options being banded about and the takeover situation makes me think whoever takes charge will only be until the end of the season.

One or more of Parky, Danns or Crosby would be the cheap option. But won’t go down well at all.

Some talk of Ronnie, but he’s 72 now and it’s been years since he managed. Would probably get us organised though.

Unemployed managers like Fowler, Ince may fancy it but no thanks. Ryan Lowe would be a good choice but is aiming at a higher level and would want a decent contract at least.
I’ve always liked Phil Parkinson who has earned his stripes at Altrincham but again would want a longer contract. John McGreal may fancy it.
Danny Holmes would love it but not sure he’s had enough experience yet.

So lots of options, but my bet would be Ronnie or Crosby, probably the latter. I’m not sure about either though but hey ho

The other frustration is that Adkins has wasted a whole series of winnable fixtures against poor opposition - Accrington, Fleetwood, Morecambe, Gillingham, Barrow etc. We now have a far more difficult series of games and his successor is left with a very, very difficult task in keeping us up.

Crosby will surely be booted ? On a short term deal, Adkins' buddy and we have got worse since he arrived.

I never call for the manager to be sacked, support loyalty but on this occasion can’t feel anything but relief that at least it gives us just maybe a glimmer of hope.
Have to admit that whilst bemused by a lot of Nigel’s tactics, set up, subs etc thought naively that getting back the nucleus together of Walker, Norris, Kieron & Regan would be just sufficient to pull us clear. However that clearly is not happening and hands up was false optimism.
Having wasted the playing budget, then out of all cup competitions before the new year the plight of no funds for a couple of Jan signings that could really make a difference is the deepest self inflicted wound compounding the already woeful recruitment.
Any competently run business holds reserves and contingency plans for emergency situations that arise. I note from historical accounts that a slump in playing results was the highest business risk identified and as such agree with many of you that the action could and should have been taken earlier.
Never usually feel inclined to turn back the clock but rather than appoint one of the existing staff, feel the best chance might be a caretaker like Ronnie Moore or Clint Hill to get us back to basics and energise the players and the SWA who will be vital to all pull together.
Like Alun of a similar vintage do feel if we slide out of the league may never see a return.
Let’s all pull together and get behind this final throw of the dice!

even MK Dons had been on a terrible run when they came to PP.

Two more problems now. Who takes charge temporarily? If it is internal, then perhaps more of the same. It is usual, when a manager leaves, that a caretaker manager is announced at the same time.

If Mark makes a permanent appointment now, prior to a takeover, he may be replaced when Joe arrives.

We need someone who can restore the players’ confidence and find a way to score a few goals with the current squad.

We want new owners and the best manager they can afford and attract.

Please god no neither are any good

Like others, I think it's a very difficult position we are in now and it would have been much more effective if Palios had made the call a couple of months ago.

The Croatian who apparently had been identified as a target for the takeover group has apparently turned them down. If all that from the other site is correct, then maybe it changes the narrative. If there isn't someone already lined up with the takeover, then it may be that better quality manager could be more willing to join on a long term basis. Who knows...

If it's a short-term arrangement then the best option is to bring in an experienced older manager who might be able to turn things around and to whom a relegation on their CV is not going to be the same concern as for an up and coming boss. I think it's a poison chalice for anyone, given the small, demoralised and injury depleted squad.

Guilia Bould from BBC Radio Merseyside said she understands we’ve been in discussions with people since early this morning so hoping for a swift announcement.
With only 13 games left and games coming thick and fast they need someone in asap

I struggle to understand MP mindset. Of course, I’m happier now Adkins is gone but why didn’t he do it months ago? We could all see what was happening.

Yes, absolutely staggering.

Even his statement yesterday smacked of complacency, with no direct reference to relegation or losing League status.
