    New manager appointed
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Darrell Clarke as the club’s new manager.

Rovers old boys

A 99th minute winner for Rochdale’s Mani Dieseruvwe means Rochdale can still go up automatically but only if they beat York at home in the final league fixture.
But York equalised after 102mins and are now automatically promoted and Rochdale in the play offs. The highlights are on Ytube and are worth watching. Mayhem at the end!

Delighted for York - after them not going up despite being miles ahead of the third team plus a couple of good mates are York fans so a good away trip hopefully if we actually stay up!
I dislike the York owners, come across as very entitled and their new ground is a soulless out of town one, nothing like Bootham Crescent. Nothing against their fans though, work with one.

I do hope Rochdale can pull themselves back together and get through the play offs.

There has been a lot of talk about increasing the number of automatic places. This might mean more than 2 being relegated from L 2.

In principle no issue with 3 up 3 down, but the NL need to synchronise their financial rules with the FL first.
Probably agree but don't what either are. Maybe the EFL could expand and have 2 north and south? Travel in tier 5 is comical at times

There is a big gap between EPL and the Championship. The gap gets smaller as you go down the tiers. Promoted League Two clubs often struggle in League One (as we did). However, teams coming up from the National League invariably thrive and often get promoted again within a year or two (eg us and Bromley).

I would favour three up - three down for all five top leagues.

However, I agree with Boz that the rules favour the NL - financially and no transfer window.

I think it should remain as two up, two down, regardless of what happens to us on Saturday.

I think it should be more difficult to achieve Football League status than to earn a regular promotion in the top four divisions. Football League status is precious and that should be reflected in the number of promotion places available.

We are getting back to where we were in the 80s. Non League teams turned over the likes of us, curiously us being the exception, more often than not in rhe fa cup. Altrincham were clearly of league standard led by another J King!
By 87 they had wained but false barriers do no good. The issue is if you have a money bags set to win it how much do you gamble to get in the lottery of play offs?
They are more than div 5 in all but name and fully pro now.

3UP from the NL seems inevitable. Possibly too many loose ends to tie off for it to be in place in time for next season but it’d be surprising if it wasn’t in place within the next three years.

It wouldn’t get support from many L2 clubs, as it would probably be introduced in conjunction with only three promoted from L2, which would affect our division at both ends. However, L1 clubs would probably support and it would go through if enough Championship clubs pulled their weight behind it.

Never heard any suggestion of reducing div 2 promotion?
Fairly myopic to vote against for the likes of us, as soon two will find out. Getting stuck down there is far more threatening than an extra place of jeopardy, I may get back to you on that one!

George Waring scored the winner for Warrington Rylands in their playoff semi final tonight. Also in the team was Luke Pilling, with Jake Burton on the bench. They now face Hednesford away in Monday’s final for a place in National League North.

Interesting Rylands potentially replacing Town as the main Warrington team. The latter had Gumbs, Harris and Devarn Green in this season’s squad.

Chester lead Macclesfield in their NLN play off eliminator. Old boys include Tom Davies, Mottley Henry and Borthwick Jackson

Macc ended up winning 2-1, with former Rovers loanee Josh Kay one of the scorers.

Luke Norris’s (injured again) employers Borehamwood knock out FGR in the NL play offs.

Happy with that.
