Well it wasn’t vintage but after zero wins in our first 3 games the victory was all that matters.

Still not great going forward but Better second half however when you think we were missing Woolery, Feeney, CBT and Ferrier it was a good win.

Another clean sheet too. Onto Salford next week

That was a fairly comfortable game as Scunthorpe were poor. Next week will be a sterner test but we did what we needed to do today. Another clean sheet, two good goals from Vaughan who was excellent today and three points.

A well deserved victory for Rovers.

The first half was poor. I thought we were too deep as a team and allowed Scunthorpe too much easy possession high up the pitch, and we did not look comfortable in the 442 formation. Whether Payne was injured or not, I thought he failed to hold the ball up in the first thirty minutes and we looked more comfortable when we reverted to the 451 formation. Lewis was actually excellent played just behind Vaughan, and his ability to break into the box and support the striker was something we have not seen much from the midfield this season.

I thought the second goal was the real turning point, as we relaxed and played some good football in the last half an hour and should have scored further goals. Defensively we were superb throughout, even in the poor first half, and to collect the number of clean sheets we have so early in the season is impressive. Scunthorpe never looked like scoring.

Individually, I thought Clarke and Ridehlagh were solid at the back, and O'Connor was great going forward and defensively. Spearing protected the back four well in the periods when we were under pressure in the first half. Kahn had a good second half, and Lewis had his best game for us so far.

However, man of the match has to be James Vaughan, not just for his goals but also the energy he showed in leading the line. He would have had a hat trick as well, if Manny had left that cross for him in the second half.

Onwards and upwards.

I would agree with all that RLC said, I would also add that Banks played well in the second half too.

I’ll dissent slightly in that felt Vaughan wasn’t in the game much early on either and there was a real issue with the midfield, which meant most of the action took place in the Rovers half. Whether by accident or design, Lewis introduction helped to change the balance, there was much more pressure from midfield and he was involved in setting up the first goal. Much better second half, with Vaughan seeing much more of the ball and a clinical finish for his second.Arguably we could have ended with a more comfortable winning margin, Khan wasting a good opportunity in the penalty box and Monthe heading just over.

Honourable mentions to Banks, Lewis, O’Connor and Clarke whose double challenge kept us level, but once he got going Vaughan a clear MoM.

From Jacko's interview, it seems that Woolery has just picked up a minor knock and could be back next week. However, Feeney has a hamstring injury and could be out for a while.

Jacko confirmed post match that the Payne switch was tactical.

CBT returns to training on Monday and Woolery may be ok for next week.

feeney oufor longer though

That's a bit of a blow as we need as much creativity as possible. Hopefully he'll be back soon. I think we need to see more from Khan and Morris on the wings.

I would think be least couple weeks, Morris been struggling all week according to jacko, Khan looks skilfull but so far seems lack the finish and final ball.

One thing we lack without Woolery, CBT and feeney is pace out wide/ Both Khan and Morris aren’t exactly quick and neither is Vaughan or Payne.
It didn’t matter yesterday But hopefully they will be back soon

Yes, we did well to win so comfortably yesterday with so little pace in the side. However, we need at least one of those players back for a much tougher test next week, and a game where we might be relying much more on counter attacks.

There are two very difficult games coming up at Salford (who will definitely be up there at the end of the season) and Newport (who will probably be up there), which will tell us a lot about our progress. If we come through those matches relatively unscathed, there are a couple of very winnable home games that follow.

After yesterday's match, I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about this season. There has been a steady improvement week to week. Four league games, three clean sheets, but now five goals this week. Three points out of six at home is disappointing, but two out of six away against stronger opposition is good. I don't feel the five points out of twelve reflects our overall performances but that's what happens when you can't score goals.

Yesterday probably should have been the routine win that it was, but we still got all the points despite being short of key creative players. The big plus for me was Mike realising early on that his formation was not working and having the courage to change personnel and system in the first 30 minutes. He is not afraid to admit his mistakes and to change things quickly. Micky is a good tactician, but even he wasn't so quick to make adjustments. I hope yesterday gives everyone more confidence for the tough games ahead.

I was seriously worried after the Cheltenham game to the extent of wondering if we were going to be in another relegation struggle, which with the squad we have shouldn’t be on the radar. MJ made an early substitution in that game too, which although improving us, didn’t change the course of the game. Early changes are a bit of a double-edged sword to my mind, the positive as BBTC suggests is a manager being flexible to making appropriate adjustments, the counter-argument is that it’s better getting it right from the start and can’t be great for the morale of the players being subbed that early.

The next two games are difficult. Salford were always expected to be amongst the pace-setters, but Newport, like Rovers, lost some key players and were also late in recruiting, so a bit of a surprise that they’ve started so well. Think we’ll have a better idea how the season will go once these have been played. The biggest concern at present is that if Vaughan is unavailable for any reason, where will the goals come from
