It's a strong selection of players on paper, but the few times I've seen us play this season they always part like the red sea in the midfield when the opposition gets the ball, leaving the defence completely exposed. If they're good players, maybe the manager has some questions to ask on how he's organising the team without the ball.

That certainly has not been the case since Jennings got his match fitness back; the protection for the back four when we have played three in the middle has been decent since the New Year.

The early season games with a midfield of Power and Atkinson were another matter.

I tend to agree that the midfield were doing a decent job of protecting the defence generally, though perhaps some issue about the break that led to the Preston winner. However the central pair didn't function well in an attacking sense in this particular game. Partly credit to Preston's own midfield who were sound when not in possession, but more than usual Jennings and Wallace were choosing the wrong option here.
