It is club policy to not comment on transfer speculation but the club feels the need to respond following recent events.
Recent reports in the local press have ended Latics' chance of signing Paul McLaren.
It had already been agreed that McLaren would have taken his medical today, and if it was passed, complete his signing for the club.
However, McLaren and his agent were very unhappy with the local press reporting that he was set to join Latics.
They believed his name had been released by the club when in fact it hadn't.
As a result, the club have been told that McLaren has decided to join Ronnie Moore at Tranmere Rovers.
