It's funny how we all look at things different but I have not been all that impressed with McPake. He's been OK, but nothing spectaular and I think we have better players such as Hawkes, Morris, Warrington etc.. I don't there is any falling out, it is just that he isn't better than what we have available.

Yes, I think he is a decent player but does not deserve to start ahead of those mentioned on his performances so far.

While I'm unsure that McPake should be routinely starting on current form, the fact that he's not getting any game time at all is puzzling. Recently, Hawkes and Morris have both been patchy and it is strange in the context of our below par recent performances that he's not getting a look-in.

He is probably performing more poorly than the other two in training. I don't think his performances have been totally convincing to date, although I think he will come good.

sadly we don't have many options left to us, do we drop either Clarke/davies for KP? can,t see it happening only option in mid-field is foley as there is more chance of me getting a game before merrie, McPake for either morris/hawkes is really only like for like as for up front even messi would struggle for goals with our set-up

Mansfield take the lead against Exeter and go above us on goal difference

Newcastle loanee Matty Longstaff scores a second for Mansfield and it looks like game over, although it seems Exeter have pushed them all the way.

We drop to fourth, but even in the event - as seems possible - that Mansfield run away with one of the automatic places, there is another place available with at least half a dozen teams in contention.

Nine of Mansfield's remaining fourteen games are away from home and their away record is poorer than ours, so it is not cut and dried yet.

We simply have to start picking up points again. Anything from tomorrow will be a starting point.

Mansfield are on an unbelievable run. Next Friday is going to be tough. Especially if we lose tomorrow

They are unbeaten in fourteen, I think. Could that run end at Prenton Park next Friday.....

It is no surprise when you look at the players they have got. Akins, Longstaff, Quinn, Murphy and Oates all in their starting line up tonight.

Very late consolation for Exeter but not enough. 2-1 FT.

Yes some very good players for this level. Plus clough has promotion experience with Burton.

As you say RLC it wouldn’t surprise me if we ended their run under the lights next Friday. That would be typical of us

Looking at it just now the table it is indeed unreal with a total lack of consistency. FGR 2 points from the last 12. Us 5 from 18 etc. etc.
Realistically there are still 10 teams in play for 2 automatics and 4 play offs all the way down to Salford - Port Vale unbeaten in last 6 and Salford 13 points from last 18. Exeter despite their defeat last night will likely push us down to 5th when they play their games in hand. After that who knows.
Have to get at least something from today IMO - my fear is we go there with exactly that intent and we set up for a bore draw. Hope I am wrong however and MM gets them playing football again.

This is one game where a draw will feel almost as good as a victory, particularly if we come from behind. Last week’s result will have knocked the team’s confidence, so anything from today will be a positive result.

Couple of fixtures to keep an eye on:

Bradford v Swindon
Newport v
Bristol Rovers
Sutton v Rochdale

We could go back into 3rd if we manage to pick up points today but ideally we do not want Sutton going ahead of us.

Also I hadn't realised, I think someone might have mentioned it earlier in this thread but Northampton have a very similar goals for and against record. We have conceded the same amount of goals and they have only scored three more than us. Safe to say this probably won't be a goal fest! :speechless:

I thinks it's all about us now. There are so many teams potentially in the mix that it could drive you mad looking at permutations. We need to finish the season strongly which seems a big ask based on the past few weeks. Let's hope that starts today and, if not, on Friday.
