Damn, I think we deserved a draw out of that game. Another set piece has undone us again.

I wonder if this game was similar to the Stockport one whereas we should have pushed forward more and taken the game to the opposition. It sounded like we sat back a bit too much.

Such a shame to lose the 4 game run and not a league game for a while now.

On a brighter note, Cresswell sounded like he had a very solid debut.

The match stats suggest we were on the back-foot, would be interested to hear from someone who went if that's a fair reflection. I'm not sure that we should stick rigidly to a 4-5-1 formation in any event.

Di Matteo admitted that it was "luck" that won them the game - not in the sense that we outplayed them, just in that it was a tight contest, and the first goal was likley to be the winning one. The stats say that we went to MK and had 7 shots at goal, which isn't bad actually, but in addition to this it's worth remembering that shuker and moore would have had great oppertunities but for marginal offside decisions. So I don't think we can be too critical about our attacking display, i mean we weren't Real Madrid, but we created a reasonable amount of chances playing away against a side who were above us in the league.

indeed, to play away against a very good and in form footballing side who (now) occupy 4th place in the table is always going to be difficult, but today we went there without two of our best players available and gave them as good a game as could really be expected. Our game plan sounded like it was working, and I don't think either side would have complained had we managed to hold out for the last 10 minutes to draw the game 0-0. Take heart from the fact that, if we can play like that away from home to sides around and below us, we can expect to pick up a fair few more points away from home this year than we have done in recent seasons. Hopefully our home form won't suffer because of it, I don't see why it should...

It's also reassuring that we managed to defend competantly without Goodison, for a change. And much credit to Cresswell; although i appreciate that drawing opinions on performances from only radio commentary isn't ideal, it sounded like he did really well today going forward and put in a solid performance on his debut.

Roll on Tuesday.................\\:D/

As usual no Goodison = no win

Will Waterfall be recalled as Goodison is going to miss the next two games according to Ronnie Moore. Otherwise Antwi might play - Kay and Chorley have never kept a clean sheet together I don't think and they have showed that their not a good combination in the past.

Defence I would play against Morecambe:

Shotton Chorley Waterfall Creswell

I would have put Taylor at left back normally but it sounded like Creswell did quite well so I would give him another game.

i have literally no idea why you would drop kay for waterfall

I read RTID's post as moving Kay rather than neccessarily dropping him. During the unbeaten run, he played all the time in midfield. There are other defensive options short of recalling Waterfall, for instance moving Shotton to central defence and playing Edds/Danny Holmes at right-back. It was interesting to note that despite the defensive absentees, Antwi didn't feature at MKD. Has it finally clicked with Ronnie that he's just not good enough?!

Hopefully you're right regarding Antwi - i don't think he'll feature much before he goes back to Liverpool in January. Moore has already said he'll never play Chorley and Antwi together again after the milwall display, so he's basically a reserve at LB/RB i guess.

During the unbeaten run Kay played every game in midfield but rarely impressed; perhaps it would be unfair to say that we won in spite of him, but he certainly contributed very little IMO. I don't think he has the pace to play in the middle, added to the fact that he doesn't read the game brilliantly and can't pass a ball to save his life. I would sympathise with the argument that in the past he has scored a decent amount of goals from center midfield, but as this has not really been the case this season, and given Goodisons injury, i'd much rather see him at the back with Chorley, with Barnett/Georgie given a go in midfield.

Waterfall performed averagely well in the one match he has featured in so far, in what was essentially a reserve game against a poor league 2 side. I'd expect no more from a 17 year old with barely any experience of reserve level football let alone first team. I therefore think it's great that he's gone on loan to wherever, because he has the oppertunity at a younger age than most to play first team football week in week out...hopefully, if he's good enough, we'll reap the rewards in a year or two...but for now, with the abundance of central midfielders we have at our disposal, leaving Kay at CB is the sensible option IMO, particulaly since he and chorley played well together yesterday.

Looks like none of us went to the Dons game, which is a shame...

Just saw the goal on TV. Little bit scrappy and it looked like it took a deflection. Really annoying as 0-0 would have been a good result.

I wasn't suggesting to drop Kay I would either move him into the midfield or swap him for Shotton at right back or give Waterfall a chance because Kay and Chorley can't play well together - they have never kept a clean sheet. There both very good defenders just not together.

On reflection I would actually move Shotton to centre back and put Edds, Holmes or even Kay at right back.

I went the game yesterday thought at times we were outclassed. the way mk moved the ball about and the way they kept possession at times was a different class. I thought we had spells in the game where we did well and i thought the young lad barnett stood out. He really is going to be a player, his passing and vision was a different class at times and he protected the back four superbly, he is just a natural footballer, superb at times. the boy has got a big future, just hope we can keep hold of him and find more players like him!!!

Sounds promising about Barnett! Di Mattio said after the game: "I have never seen a team so defensive before, the other teams at least try a little bit.

"You went past one, and then two and there was another five. It's difficult".

lol

Sounds like the usual 10-0-0 !

Why play so defensive with no Goodison, thats just asking for trouble!

Having said that, weren't there a bunch of really good chances in the first half?

exactly. di matteo just likes to play nice football through midfield. we stuck 5 in there and gave them a hard time. he can **** off with his comments, overrated prick.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as di matteo makes out. We had our chances in the first half and but for poor finishing from Edds and Moore being unlucky when though we would have been infront at the break. MK Dons kept the ball well enough but if you ask me they didn't have the quality to break through. It was only one slip of concentration when no one picked up Gallen as soon as he came on that cost us a well earned draw.
