It's good to see that Max has extended his contract to June 2015. No matter where we finish this season, it's been a long time since we've had such a good crop of youngsters coming through - Cole and Jake Kirby, too. It bodes well for next season, as these three can only improve. Who are the next youth scholars coming through?

Very good news indeed a decent player in the making, good that we have several of our youngsters signed up for a couple of years now.

Not sure there is much else coming through at the moment, the youth team have struggled a lot this season.

I think Max, in addition to Goody, has been our outstanding player in recent weeks and has really stepped up his game since Corry arrived to provide increased competition.

This signing got me thinking about the strength of our squad next season. Most of us have probably assumed that if we don't go up we will be fighting a relegation battle next year, but I think the players who have committed to us could provide the basis for another top six challenge in 2013-4.

In addition to the youngsters we have Taylor, Holmes, Wallace, Robbo and Akpro signed up, with OFW and Zoum fairly likely to commit as well and further options on Baggie and McGurk; all above average players at this level. We certainly won't be facing the mass exodus of key players we did the last time we missed out under Ronnie in 2009.

Would be sorry to see Zoum go, although I do rate Black if he is still around. May not have Zoums pace, but I think he reads the game better and has good technique.

The only player in the reserves/youth squads who looks promising enough to go further is Joe Conchie, although I haven't see many games this season at this level.

Pleased about Max Power, who's come into his own with the extended run. Bell-Baggie has done better than expected from his career history, so pleased he's extended his stay.

Any news on the tribunal? If so, does anyone know how much the club got in compensation from Wigan? I'll bet it wasn't much.

PS Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd tack my post onto an old thread. Read the earlier posts only if you want to wipe out the joy from yesterday. Although the thread was started just over 2 years ago, it seems like a different era.

Max scored his first goal for Wigan yesterday in the derby at Oldham. It seems Wigan are now getting into gear, which is more than can be said for Danny's Newport County. His decision to move there looks more misguided with every week that passes.

Yeah, good goal from Max, hope he does well there. Regarding Holmes, did you see that tackle he made a few weeks back that got him sent off? Not at all good. Seems like a frustrated player at Newport.

Max Power has been in and out of the team at Wigan. Hopefully after scoring a good goal, he'll get a decent run out, though unsure they're going to manage any better than play-offs this season. It's disappointing the tribunal haven't set a fee yet.

Danny Holmes' sending off for the Exiles was reminiscent of when he got red-carded for us at Crewe, making a stupid challenge when already on a yellow. See he had to be subbed at the weekend because of a head injury. However, it's too early to judge if he's made the right move. He was getting game time at Newport, here he could have been bench warming behind Ihiekwe, Sutton, Hogan. Or looking at Liam Ridehalgh recently, not always making the bench.

I think that is unlikely to be honest. Brabin wanted to keep him and as our only specialist right back I am sure he would have played, not that I think we have really missed him.

Still no date for the tribunal its a joke its taking so long to get a date, cant see us getting more than about £150k in total plus maybe small percentage of any fute transfer fees

Sadly, I agree. It's a L2/NL player going to a L1 club, after all. I wonder what other offers Rovers received and turned down while his contract was running down. the sell-on money may give us more cash than the initial amount, as I think Max could eventually make a million-pound, Championship player.

Back to Max, it's disturbing that Rovers academy has produced so few players in recent years and those who have made the breakthrough since Aaron Cresswell have gone for peanuts. In the case of Ash Taylor, we got zilch as he went to a Scottish club. Our only hope of any dosh is if and when he returns to an English club. You may blame the club for not offering longer contracts to its young talent, but the only ones who signed long deals were Messrs Stockton and Kirby, neither of whom are likely to be worth a transfer fee in the near future. It's very difficult.

I do believe the current crop of juniors is the best for years. I just hope we sign them all up on contracts of an appropriate length.

I've just seen on the OS that the club have agreed with Wigan a fee for Max instead of the matter going to a tribunal. MP sounds upbeat about it and I'll bet he was closely involved in the strategy and negotiations. As usual, the details haven't been disclosed, but wisely there are add-ons based on appearances and a share of any sell-on transfer fee. Let's hope Max is as successful as the last young player we lost this way - Aaron Cresswell. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to hearing more details from someone on this site.
