I'm surprised, but I'd be amazed if we could sign him.
If we’re not currently able to make offers to our out of contract players, it seems highly unlikely we’re in a position to attract players of his calibre. I suppose from a WBA perspective they might reach the Prem and have reservations about Kane at that level.

I think we will make offers to our out of contract players.

I think they will go up and I can understand their decision on that basis as they will need to focus on players who can play at that level immediately since their finances will be stretched. Clearly he cannot do so based on current ability - but I 100% agree with Boz. in my view there is frankly not a chance in hell that we will be able to afford him... the reality sadly is we are back in bargain basement land with knobs on so to speak. To think otherwise is delusional. Surely he will go to another Championship club (maybe a newly promoted one?) or at the very least to a big club in the League we have just been kicked out of..

On a related point all gone quiet on the legal front - have to say that disappoints me a lot if we have decided not to pursue... allows EFL idiots to get away scot free...

Yet according to a knowledgeable poster on another site we still want to take up the option to sign cook but unlikely to sign Vaughan due to his wages in league two, so we won't just be in the bargain basement.

On the legal action they are waiting upon Hearts. They have more money than us and if they win.... Maybe why we have not announced our list of players departing come what may. Potter will go but will Danns be asked to stay?

We will be more competitive financially in League Two next season than we were in League One last season, that is for sure.

As has been said many times, prudent and sensible ownership means we will come out of this crisis better than many clubs.

Danns was the best of the three ageing midfielders last season, but I think he, Perkins and Potter will all be released.

As unjust as the decision was, if legal action means risking the stability Palios has worked five years to achieve, then we can't go ahead with it unfortunately.

I based my earlier comment re signings on what Mark said during the Facebook meeting, which suggested we weren’t going to be offering any new deals when contracts ran out. IF those players out of contract haven’t found new clubs by the time the position re next season becomes clearer, then presumably we may offer deals to those we want then.

Mansfield have recently signed two strikers, so Cook may be available, but as still under contract guess a fee needed.

Cook was very disappointing on his return and to my mind would be a better option so if we can't afford him ...

I would prefer Vaughan. However, Cook certainly would not be a cheap option and would probably score goals in League Two.

Don't disagree RLC in concept but NP is a trained lawyer and if it is genuinely costing us £1m then additional specialised advice on a contingency basis might be the way to go...

I took his comments as in relation to new signings rather than our out of contract signings.

Can’t remember exactly how he phrased it now but Mark answered a question about signings with we’ve got ten players under contract and need to see when/how the new season resumes...not economic to play wages for sitting around at home. There were also questions coming in on screen about out of contract players not addressed. My impression was he was referring to all new contracts including those currently on our books.

I think MP was also referring to out of contract players, which does not concern me as with a couple of exceptions - Salford, Mansfield - all clubs are in the same boat.

So 9 in contract and Clarke has activated his extension. Offers to Walker-Rice and 3 scholars.

Thanks for the update ONIGP - thought Clarke might decide to call it a day -that is great news. Delighted with Walker- Rice being offered another deal - he needs to be picked and played this year IMO. Given we are back in L2 and the COVID cash crunch we surely must play some youngsters. Looks like Cook and Vaughan are gone....

I think it is too early to say what will happen with Cook, Vaughan or any out of contract players. If we and the majority of other clubs are not offering contracts yet, we can't know where they will end up.
