I think England's problems run much deeper than the manager and I don't think anyone has any real solutions.

There were a couple of rants on the internet last night, by Danny Baker and Chris Waddle, that are worth seeking out. Brutal and to the point.
I was listening to 606 after the game and agreed with pretty much everything Waddle had to say. The whole setup stinks when you've got a guy walking away with 14m in his back pocket who couldn't understand why he had to attend another press conference the morning after our worst defeat in recent history. No passion, no pride and that goes for the players too. Stick in a load of lower level players who have the drive and passion. These so called 'top' players haven't performed for years and years.

This article by Jamie Carragher (in the Mail unfortunately) sums it up. I agree with every word.

The defeat to Iceland had nothing to do with tactics or Hodgson, poor as they might have been. The bloated Premier League clubs have bred a generation of pampered children, with no personality, character or initiative. That was clearly evident in the second half performance against Iceland; arguments about 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, or whether Sterling should have started, don't even begin to explain how awful that display was.

Great article. This sums up today's footballer:
They lock themselves up in their own bubbles and then, when things go wrong, they retreat back into them to be told it wasn't their fault. That is the Academy Generation. The generation that became too soft.

Still think the manager has to take some part in this too with his woeful tactics and team selections. That may not have helped.

That was a profound analysis. The fact it came from a prominent ex-footballer makes it all the more credible. Sadly, there are no "football" people left at the top of the FA. Greg Dyke's replacement will need to address this. However, the culture at the clubs will also need to change but when managers have the funds to bring in mature players from overseas, why do they need to look at their academies?

One of the great international performances from Wales tonight. Fair play to them. What a team.

Fantastic, and that's how you play as a team.

Tonight's performance showed that Wales are not a one-player team. Like Iceland, it shows that if you are well organised and have a good team spirit, you can be resilient and competitive.

Agree BBTC. Singularly lacking in the English team. They certainly exploited weakness in the centre of the Belgian defence. Mind it does help if you can take a decent corner or cross a ball! England please note!
