So, another team is in serious trouble. Overspending. Financial dishonesty. Facing multiple point deductions. Partial transfer embargo. Owner responsible and wants to sell but can’t. No sympathy from me and none from TRFC either.

Awful news coming out of Derby County this evening. Yet more proof that there is something fundamentally flawed with our football pyramid at the moment #dcfc #fairgame #TRFC
See you in League One next season. ;)

Overspending and the desire at all costs to get to the premier league. I think there are quite a few in this position.

It is parachute payments that are the root cause of the problem. They massively inflate wage levels in the second tier and encourage the clubs that don't receive them to borrow and overspend in order to keep up with those that do.

NP has long argued that they should be scrapped and the money redistributed among all three divisions of the Football League. This is one of the key proposals of the 'Fair Game' group of clubs, of which we are one.

One of the most negative effects of parachute payments is the huge gulf in wage levels between the second and third tiers, which makes it virtually impossible for promoted League One clubs to survive in the Championship, without taking huge financial risks.

Not only is the parachute payment rewarding failures, it gives advantage to those clubs who receive them over the rest of the division.

You have to remember that Derby have struggled for a number of years. Have had fines and the football league looking into their finances. The city is still reeling from the closure of the car plant that so many people rely on.

There are plenty of clubs who get away with overspending and as long as the debt is covered by the owners (in many ways) the league and everyone else is not interested.

In modern footie, you need deeper financial pockets. And a bank manager who understands football finances. Also foreign investment to offset covid and previous lack of investment.

Some clubs need to access the loyalty of supporters, players and sponsors.

The biggest problem with some clubs is a continuation of managers, players and staff leaving the club and losing the experience that they were brought in to do.

Also the demand for instant success and promotion. The desire and the temptation to buy success in footie, has always been a practice that has been exploited by the super rich.
If you look at all levels of football, money is the overwhelming decision making to achieve success.

Don't Rovers have a similar record in the last ten years?

can,t see us paying out a fraction of the wages/compensation KEITH if you look at the list of past managers it,s pretty impressive (at least on paper) and none would have come cheap

We've had 16 permanent managers since 1999 including two spells by both Ronnie and Micky.

In the last ten years, we've had 9 (8 different ones). During that period, only Ronnie and Micky have lasted longer than just over a season. Picking a suitable manager has been a perpetual problem for Rovers. That's why we need to hang on to anyone doing a half-decent job. That's worth remembering when slagging Micky off. :(

I agree with the sentiment regarding MM, but Les Parry was actually in charge for two and a half years.

I wasn't comparing our track record with derby,s just saying the calibre of managers was much higher plus factoring the additional staff being hired the pay-offs must be mind blowing

Fleetwood now in serious trouble.

Andy Pilley charged with money laundering offences, following an eight year investigation.

The administrators for Derby have appeared the 12 point deduction for going into administration, it now goes to an independent panel to decide the outcome.
The appeal will cost £300k seems total madness and waste of money to appeal and surely has no chance of succeeding same as happened with Wigan.

Mind you, there have been some odd results from these independent panels in recent years. Nothing would surprise me. Aren't they due a further 9 points as well?

It can't win as it would lead to chaos and almost encourage teams to go into administration to vastly reduce costs.

There is potential for further 9 point deduction due to issues with falsification of accounts
