Palios has always said that he prefers two year deals. We gave out one year contracts in the last two summers due to the impact of COVID.

I guess the uncertainty over COVID is understandable but with this cautious 1-year approach comes a huge turnaorund of players. Hopefully we can get back on track soon as replacing 20 players a season is not viable.

In the early years with Palios we'd also do some contract extensions during the season, which I'd like to see us try again, with appropriate players. Anything to reduce the last minute scramble for final payday players, some of who's commitment is questionable.

In the two seasons we were relegated, one season we had 51 players in all. And just over forty the season we were relegated to the national league.

If we want to achieve a certainty of progression, then giving one year contracts is not the way to go. There doesn't seem to be a plan for the future.

The use of 51 players in the relegation season was almost entirely down to Mickey Adams.

Yes and we should also point the finger at the club for employing him in the first place. That was not a good period anyway with some awful managerial and player recruitments.

Adams turned out to be a disaster, but when he was appointed the consensus was he was a good choice.

Indeed. I am sure even Palios himself thought Adams knew what he was doing with his revolving-door recruitment, deferring to his considerable experience, only to discover like the rest of us that he was completely clueless.

Very few teams signed five players in key positions, including centre forward, on the final day.

My key point was that we have had a massive overhaul of the entire squad - more than twenty players - of the kind that very few other clubs have had. It is unreasonable to believe things will immediately click into place when there is that much change in one transfer window.

Harrogate were not in the play offs. Hartlepool were, but had more of their core squad already in place than we did.

Interestingly, although he is currently flavour of the month in some quarters, Challinor finished in the bottom half of the National League in his first season in charge at Hartlepool, following a major squad overhaul. Patience is required when there is significant change, irrespective of who the manager is.
Yes Hartlepool- not Harrogate.... senior moment - both in the North East but that's about the only similarity;)
