from what I’ve heard you can see why Ferrier wasn’t a success in walsalls relegation battle last season. Against Sunderland he was poor, throwing himself to the floor etc and sounds like it was a similar story today.

Thanks for the report RLC. How did Vaughan do?

Vaughan did not do much. He won a few flick ons which Ferrier should have made more of.

However, the service to him was poor and I think he will improve once he settles. I would start with Cook and Vaughan up front on Tuesday, with Ferrier on the bench.

Do we have to repeat for the umpteenth time that we have one of the lowest budgets in the division ? And the teams with the lowest budgets are generally at the bottom of the table ?

We clearly did not have the money last summer to bring in the players of the quality we needed. Now we have - Clarke, Woodyard, Cook - but it is probably too little too late.

Plus, we were lumbered with a number of players that were recruited in the divisions below and we would have liked to have moved on, but could not, because they were still under contract.
so why buy & spend what small budget we have on players who you hardly play? it,s like going into burtons and buying 6 suits lock them in your wardrobe then go out in jeans & a t shirt, trivial I know but the money wasted is criminal

Because we have to put together a squad of 20-25 players. And if we don't have the money for 20 good players, some of the players in that squad will inevitably be average or below average in ability.

I think the addition of Cook will improve us. It may be too little too late but at least we have someone that can hold up the ball and score a few in the process, something Ferrier is not doing very well at the moment.

One of my biggest bugbears though is the amount of wasted opportunities and by that I mean set pieces, crosses, corners. They are generally poor and so no matter how many tippy tappy passes you make, our final ball or good opportunity is lost. There was some decent play today especially in the first half but there was nothing to show for it for the reasons mentioned above.
We desperately need a win not only for points but for confidence and something to build from.

As poor as today was, and as poor as we have been for much of the season, if we win on Tuesday we are only three points from safety (four with goal difference).

I think the new additions will make a difference in time, but we have to win on Tuesday.

True, but Cook only needs average creativity to score goals.

I think we will improve when the new arrivals settle. Whether we will improve enough, who knows.

I don't think micky is helping himself with some baffling team selections, surely did should have started today and why was Payne not on the bench I stead of 1 of the 4 central midfielders. It would appear that Nelson ray and Payne have fallen well out of fxavour, but surely as we still have them at the club we should try to use them

Yes, I would have started Nelson alongside Feeney with Woods at right back. That was a strange decision, but Micky clearly does not trust Nelson at all now.

He made a mistake for the first goal, but settled and did ok. However, I think he needs someone more experienced alongside him.

If Clarke and Monthe had played today, I am not sure we would have lost. Both goals were avoidable, particularly the first.

What was most alarming today was the lack of fight from the players in the second half. However, I think that is because the confidence of some of them is finally shot after losing matches all season.
I also think that the 4 games in 9 days caught up with us; not only in respect of the legs on the pitch today but the restings, injuries, suspensions and debutants that led to a change in formation and personnel. Mickey's challenge is to quickly identify a preferred line up and formation that can engender some consistency and take us to the end of the campaign. That has not been easy so far this season, being hampered by a ridiculously long stream of injuries right from the start, and It isn't going to get any easier for him with 2 games a week for the forseeable.

I agree, I think he had a decent debut. It was really unfortunate that he was thrown into a reshuffled defence in respect of formation and personnel. I think that the 2 rather than 3 centre backs kept it simple, but it was a real shame that Clarke was injured. At very least it was a "character building" debut!

I like Ferrier but he is knackered - he needs a rest and to sort his injury out. Providing, they are fit enough I'd be playing Vaughan and Cook for the next few games and not even considering him.

Agree with this. There is no excuse for consistently poor set pieces. This is something that should be nailed on the training ground. The poorer teams in any league tend to struggle in open play so these opportunities become even more critical. If we can't improve in this area then we will severely limit the chance that Cook and Vaughan have to make a telling difference.

Simply not good enough - no creativity whatsoever, terrible distribution with crosses woeful and most worrying for the first time this season a fair few players looked like they didn't want to be on the pitch. Bolton looked way better than us and hungry for it which is miraculous considering their position. Yes it was unfortunate that Cook wasn't available but would it have made much difference? I doubt it. Why Caprice is still picked is beyond me.. surely MM and Jackson know that he just is embarrassing at this level. Whatever your views on MM his stubborness is so ingrained I just don't see how he will change things round now. I mean we have Walker-Rice who from what I have seen is the best set piece specialist in the club. Play him and play for corners and attacking free kicks. Yes he may not be the best in midfield but he has bundles of energy. Might not be pretty but we are in the last chance saloon and I don't want us to go down even tho I am 90% certain we will now. As to MM future I see no reason to have a poll either as we have no say in the matter. Suffice to say however that generally on social media the desire for MM to go is much higher than on here. If we lose Tuesday then for me something has to be done - if MM isn't to be sacked then why not sack Jacko as our defence organisation remains appalling and bring in someone like Higgy to try and marshall the defence and sort things out. If MM feels that makes his position untenable then fair enough.
