Of course, but in my mind, they make out like it's this big open forum, send your questions in etc. when in reality it's a pretty controlled session of carefully picked Q&A.

I think i'm also getting more grumpier as I get older. :giggle:
Damned if they do, damned if they don't though really are not they ?

In terms of entertainment at Prenton Park, I would say the following games were all entertaining:

Salford, Colchester. Crawley, Scunthorpe, Rochdale (first twenty minutes anyway, as it was an easy victory), Swindon, Mansfield, Carlisle, Exeter. The victories against Orient, Barrow, Stevenage and Harrogate were solid.

There have been relatively few poor performances at home, and we have to remember this is League Two football with limited players. It is not realistic to expect scintillating entertainment plus victories at this level, and clubs like Exeter and Forest Green won't have provided that either on a weekly basis.

The fact remains that we have the best home record in the division, and that is something Mellon can deservedly cite when he defends his performance.

That's a good example, so you wonder what changes were made for them to go from not making the playoffs to now automatic promotion. Did the manager change his style? did they simply recruit better players?
Better players in some areas, particularly defensively, and probably simply more time to work with the squad and get it to gel and perform effectively.

From what I remember from last seasons games against them last season they were a good passing team and certainly at our place Matt Jay was probably the best player I saw against us.

They were poor defensively, which is why they did not make the top seven.

Cheltenham and Cambridge were not footballing sides last season but went up automatically, so there is not one definite style that results in promotion.

No rovers fan can surely complain about our home form this season. I can recall a few games where I felt we were lucky to win but I’d take a scrappy 1-0 win over an entertaining 3-3 draw any day of the week. It’s winning that matters. If you have the resources to win with style then fine, but if you don’t the winning ugly at times is the next best thing.

It’s the away form that needs a good look at.

True and I don't mean the getting grumpier bit:)
Yes the odd snippet of info that we get re log term development stuff is interesting but the reality is the rest of it is cherry picked questions getting sugar coated pre- prapared answers. Other clubs don't bother even with that however so it is arguably better than nothing.

So you are happy to watch negative football week in and week out if it means we get the odd undeserved 1-0? Your choice but I dont want to pay money for that. With the exception of a a handful of teams I would say that our style of football has been the worst in the division this season.

Swindon at home? Exeter at home? Not sure that was negative football. 16 wins out of 23 home games. Yes plenty of games weren’t too easy on the eye but I’d prefer 3 points from a game rather than 1 - irrespective of whether we play like Brazil or the dog and duck.

You don’t get promoted playing attractive football. You get promoted by winning games and accumulating enough points

Nothing wrong with having different views on what we want from watching football. I personally would prefer the majority of games to be entertaining with a few scrappy negative displays as opposed to the other way around. I dont like seeing us being outplayed by what are typically poor teams. We have good players who are capable of playing good football, so it must be frustrating for them being instructed to play the way we do.

I agree with Sparky that the majority of home games have been entertaining, as well as delivering results which is obviously the most important thing. The following were all entertaining performances, off the top of my head:

Salford
Colchester
Crawley
Scunthorpe
Rochdale
Swindon
Mansfield
Port Vale
Carlisle
Bristol Rovers
Exeter
Oldham

More than fifty per cent of matches, without even consulting the fixture list. Several of the other victories were perfectly acceptable, solid performances for a League Two side.

We have not been outplayed at Prenton Park by poor sides.

I’d describe a ball park figure of 50% of those games listed above as workmanlike rather than entertaining, giving you the kind of satisfaction and relief that a plumber would fixing a leak; it’s the final result that matters.
Now, if that said plumber were to throw in a few card tricks, do the odd back flip and play a palatable rendition of Tequila on his saxophone whilst dancing the Macarena, now that’s entertainment.

Three thousand supporters certainly felt sufficiently entertained to part with another £400. The results were also superb.

With every indication that we are not going up, that’s a great vote of confidence in Mark and Micky. To be willing to pay increased prices for yet more League Two football is real loyalty.

Without a survey of those three thousand supporters, it’s a long shot to say they all felt sufficiently entertained. Some will buy through a sense of loyalty, tradition, obligation, hope, expectation and even a sense of philanthropy. I’m aware of a number of elderly supporters, who sit in fairly close proximity, who’ve berated Micky and a lot of performances, yet have still renewed; it’s in their genetics, a life-long requirement akin to the need to eat, drink and even breath. I guess whatever you do, some will remain dissatisfied and having a good old fashioned moan is a release of the pent up tensions that life bestows upon us; we all know “serial moaners” the Victor Meldrews of this world just as we‘re likely to know so-called “super fans” with their Tranmere duvets and matching curtains; they all have their place, diversity rules!
I’ve parted with £500 to cover my son’s and my own ticket; why? Interesting you should ask. I could add to the list of reasons given above in that, on the whole, my son is keen to go which adds pressure to accommodate his wishes and who doesn’t love avoiding the big shop with the wife on a Saturday!
It was a bit of a strange one v Oldham as he was disinterested, unusual for him, and commented that he didn’t want to go “What’s the point, they get your hopes up just to let you down”; ”Welcome to the world of following Tranmere” I replied “You have to take the good with the bad” reminding him of our recent good times; I also pointed out that we’re not unique in our disappointment and encouraged empathy for the travelling Oldham supporters who will be feeling a whole lot worse. His disappointment is understandable, he’s allowed it and should be encouraged to express his emotions; me tempering with gentle rationale to try to ease his woes eventually persuaded him to come along and he actually enjoyed the occasion, some of that down to the good humour of the Oldham chants “We’re on our way…. and Tequila” went down well (he is still clinging onto the hope we’re still in with a chance after one or two of the other results were kind, but I’m certain more gentle, fatherly comforting will be required come Saturday post-match).
I’m guessing my point is, football’s all about passion, emotion and opinions; we’ll all come at it from different angles, handle adversity differently and have different needs. You could argue that in a Utopian world we’d all be tolerant and accepting of our diverse views………but, the devil in me says scratch that, ain’t that one of the other beauties of football, heated debate!

The entertainment value at Prenton Park this season, for Fourth Division football, has been absolutely fine.

A very good insight into what it’s like to be a football fan - particularly in the lower leagues. It does demonstrate how valuable supporting a sports team can be for a child growing up. I’ve been there. It was often painful and sometimes joyful. A microcosm of life itself.

BTW, I think you are a great dad!

What it does not explain, however, is why we only had 1,500 season ticket holders in 2014-15 and we now have 3,600. The quality of the football on the pitch is clearly something to do with that. ☺

As I remember, that was about the time when we had just been relegated from League One. Peter Johnson was still in charge, budgets were being cut and Rob Edwards was being appointed. The fans were far from happy or optimistic. They are not exactly ecstatic now, but are surely much more hopeful. And of course, the recent home record will be another factor.

I think the quality of football was better when we came up from the conference. I think the squad unity was much better too. Same manager, just better players IMO.

Yes, and the product on the pitch was awful. When the product on the pitch improved - as a result of, and allied with, the off the field changes you reference - the supporters returned.

Supporters are not blindly loyal, other than a small minority, even in the lower divisions. If the football on the pitch is truly terrible, they will desert.

If the entertainment had been as poor this season as some suggest, the season ticket renewals would not be at anything like the level they are.
