He is from Birkenhead - according to Transfermarkt - and is a regular in the U23s. They probably feel like he is ready to be tested at the next level. I don't think that there will be any particular pressure for game time and he will be joining as a squad member. It would be fantastic if he took his chance and could challenge for a first team place.

Can only assume that foleys injury is a minor one and that MM thinks that others e.g OConnor, Cogley can play CB if we are really short. Big risk though. Some of our rivals e.g Mansfield have bought in some good quality on deadline day.

I agree. Micky must have felt that more creativity in midfield was more important. He probably wanted another CB as well but couldn’t get one without shipping another player out. He could surely have got another cover CB for the same price as Warrington but chose to strengthen midfield.

With he seeming lateness in the day of the Warrington signing it may well be that a CB was priority but wasn't possible. It may then have then have been a case of "use it or lose it" resulting in the arrival of Lewis. Just playing guessing games, of course!

There may still be one or two out of contract central defenders out there who could do a job for us.

Getting Warrington in may also see Merrie being frozen out completely again which would be disappointing.

Meant to be quite good this kid. I don't think there is anything wrong in competition for places. Keeps everyone on their toes!
Yes, a few Everton fans have commented that he would have been close to the first team if they had not signed Alli yesterday. Sounds promising.

Hearing promising things form various people on Lewis, sounds like he is a very promising player, and is potentially better than what we have, so could be a great signing!

Agree about Merrie Boz. Whenever I’ve seen him (admittedly not much), he’s impressed. We are second so he can’t complain too much about not playing but bringing another centre mid in is questionable, unless Lewis is something special.
Perhaps Micky sees merrie as good left back back up for mcdonald. He probably tried to get rid of Maguire (and Mani), but perhaps unsurpsingly there were no takers

I think he does see Merrie as a left back. To be honest, when I have seen him play he has impressed me more at left back than in midfield.

Recall you were fairly positive about the pre-season opener when he played in midfield v Rangers? Then Macdonald's injury and Maguire's covid meant that he was rather forced into the left-back slot. I'd agree his best game in a Rovers shirt was at left-back v Walsall in the season opener before he got harshly sent off and that was mostly for his attacking play, as there were a few occasions of defensive lapses. I don't think he's had enough game time in either position to be sure, probably not as defensively minded as the Spearing/O'Connor combo in midfield, but not really a box to box midfielder as Watson was meant to be.

Spearing out for six weeks it seems. Very bad news.

It is a good job we brought the midfielder in.
That is bad news, need all the expertise we can muster for the promotion push. We don’t need a season like the one where we lost to Forest Green in the play-off final as the injuries kept stacking up.

I don’t know enough about Warrington but suspect he’s a different style of player to Spearing. Merrie is probably closest in style but would guess we’ll stick with Foley for now.

I think Warrington might be needed simply to rotate every now and then. It is a heavy schedule in the next couple of months, and O'Connor and Foley would have to play every game.

I think Mellon might be tempted to switch formation for some matches, and bring Morris into the middle.

Just seen Kyle Hyde has gone back to Marine on loan for rest of the season - was recalled from them in December during Covid outbreak. Went straight back into their side on Tuesday. Good move for him to get more experience.
